Dhanashree Verma responds to Yuzvendra Chahal calling their marriage ‘fake’: ‘Don’t take advantage just because I am not speaking…’
Yuzvendra Chahal had accepted that he and Dhanashree Verma were faking their marriage by the end. Dhanashree advised him to move on and let their personal lives remain private.

Cricketer Yuzvendra Chahal and influencer Dhanashree Verma were all over the internet when they finalised their divorce in March. Several theories were formed post that with many blaming the choreographer, while others questioning the cricketer. Amid all the drama, Yuzvendra’s choice of t-shirt for the day of their divorce hearing in court made headlines. A text on it read: ‘Be your own sugar daddy.’ Reports of Dhanashree demanding a particular amount as alimony also circulated online. And just days after their divorce, Dhanashree released her new song: “Dekha Ji Dekha Maine.” It dealt with domestic violence and infidelity, making her fans believe it was a hint at what went wrong in her marriage with Yuzvendra Chahal.
Now, after nearly five months, Dhanashree has opened up about her separation from the cricketer after four years of marriage. Yuzvendra had recently told influencer Raj Shamani that the couple was faking their relationship towards the end.
Speaking to Humans of Bombay, Dhanashree shared, “There is a reason why we say personal life. It has to be private. A coin has two sides. You cannot clap with a single hand. Just because I am not speaking, doesn’t give anybody the power to take advantage of that. Its not correct and I don’t think it should happen with anybody. Its done and dusted, please move on. I do have lots to talk about it, I have my side of the story to it, but do I want to dwell into that? No. Right now, I am working on fixing myself.”
She addressed all the negative comments she received post her divorce with the cricketer and said, “People need to realise that you cannot label a woman always. When you don’t know anything, how are you labelling the woman? People always comment. They commented even when I was not associated with anyone, much before my marriage. They had issues with the energy I danced with.”
In the same podcast, Dhanashree also shared that after her divorce, she feared if the industry will judge her and disassociate with her. “I was always scared that will I get work after my divorce? I constantly had this thought that, ‘Will I be accepted again?’ But I feel so happy and blessed that I belong to an industry where nobody has judged me. I am still getting work and being appreciated for the talent that I am carrying. Every director and producer is excited to work with me. The industry is too good.”
Despite an ugly breakup and divorce, Dhanashree is still hopeful to find the Bollywood kind of love. She shared, “I think we all want love in life. Who doesn’t want to be loved? We all hope and sometimes love is also something that drives you also. I agree that self-love is priority, but apart from that if there is something good written for me, ahead of my life then why not? Because everybody including my parents and friends want that for me. I too want something good in life. Love is very Bollywood and I want to go through all that.”
Dhanashree and Yuzvendra tied the knot in December 2020. However, after over 4 years of marriage, they finalised their divorce on March 20 this year.
