Coastal zone body seeks report on ramp at Shah Rukh Khan’s house

The authority has sought a detailed report from the civic body over the illegal ramp constructed outside Shah Rukh bunglow ‘Mannat’.

In what could be fresh trouble for actor Shah Rukh Khan, the Maharashtra Coastal Zone Management Authority has sought a detailed report from the civic body over the illegal ramp constructed outside ‘Mannat’, the actor’s bungalow in Bandra. The ramp was later demolished.

In a meeting last week, officials from the environment department took up the issue after they received complaints regarding the construction.

“We discussed the issue and have asked the BMC to give a detailed report,” said member secretary Ajay Fulmali, not elaborating on the exact nature of complaint against the ramp, in terms of Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) norms. The BMC had demolished the ramp after Khan failed to act on the notice issued to him on February 6 asking him to remove it. The ramp on Cement Road allegedly obstructed people from accessing the public road that connects Bandstand to Mount Mary Road.

Citizens’ groups have been writing to the BMC for the past three years, spearheaded by Watchdog Foundation. The civic body, however, was forced to act only after Poonam Mahajan, BJP MP from Mumbai North Central, wrote to former civic chief Sitaram Kunte on January 29.

“The ramp is known to be used by the bungalow owner to park his heavy motor vehicle,” Mahajan wrote without naming the actor. Almost a month after the demolition, the BMC sent the actor a bill of Rs 1.93 lakh.
