Chandu Champion box office collection Day 1 early report: Kartik Aaryan’s drama eyes shocking opening
Chandu Champion box office collection Day 1 early report: Chandu Champion, a biopic on India’s first Paralympic gold medalist Murlikant Petkar, is likely to be the lowest Kartik Aaryan opener in years.

Chandu Champion‘s box office prospects isn’t looking bright at the moment. The Kartik Aaryan headlined sports drama, in which he essays the role of India’s first Paralympic gold medalist Murlikant Petkar, is set to open to dismal box office numbers. As per early estimates posted by Sacnilk at 9 pm on Friday, the film clocked merely Rs 3.97 crore. The figures will go higher as the night shows kick in but it remains to be seen if the jump would be significant enough for the film to cross the Rs 5 crore mark.
As of now, Chandu Champion is trending below the opening of Munjya (Rs 4.21 crore), a film with no star face and is well below even Janhvi Kapoor-Rajkummar Rao starrer Mr and Mrs Mahi, which recorded Rs 6.85 crore on day one, aided by Rs 99 tickets.
Chandu Champion is likely to be the lowest Kartik Aaryan opener in years, as the last time a film of his was below Rs 4 crore was Guest iin London in 2017, which had recorded Rs 2.80 crore. The movie will become the third consecutive film of Kartik, which will fail to hit the double-digit mark on Day 1 after Satyaprem Ki Katha co-starring Kiara Advani (Rs 9.25 crore) and Kriti Sanon starrer Shehzada (Rs 6 crore).
The current trending of the film in fact puts it in a lesser zone than that of Vidyut Jammwal starrer Crakk, which had minted Rs 4 crore on day one, boosted by discounted rates on the occasion of Cinema Lovers Day. Chandu Champion makers had also rolled out an offer of tickets at Rs 150 for Friday.

With a such a low opening, Chandu Champion will now heavily depend on the audience word of mouth, as the critics’ reaction for the film has so far been mixed to good. The movie would also hope to cash in on the Monday holiday on account of Bakri Eid.
Released on over 3000 screens, Chandu Champion is produced by Sajid Nadiadwala and is the first film of 2024 for Kartik Aaryan. The actor will be back on screen with Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, set to open this Diwali.
