The 54th International Film Festival of India kicked off with British filmmaker Stuart Gatt's debut film Catching Dust, which was earlier screened at the Tribeca Film Festival in the USA and the Raindance Film Festival in the UK. In a chat with Indianexpress.com, Gatt opened up about attending IFFI and also revealed his connection with India. He said, “It’s been an incredible experience. This festival is so well respected. For me, there is a personal connection because my mom is from India.” Gatt also shared that Satyajit Ray is his favourite filmmaker and said, "He is someone I watch a lot. He is the greatest filmmaker of all time. I study his films. I watch classics over and over again." The filmmaker also said that he recently also watched Salman Khan’s Bharat, "because my friend was in it.” When asked if he would make a film with Indian actors, Gatt said, “I would love to make films with Indian actors. My style is different from this style.” The filmmaker also shed some light on the Asian representation in movies in the West. He said that Indian men are mostly shown to be going after women and women are always 'hypersexualised'. “In the West, for ‘desi' like us, it is quite offensive. It is so normal to see Indian men going after women, having them speak in exaggerated accents. Indian women are always hypersexualised. So, in the West, we have a long long way to go," Gatt expressed. Catching Dust stars Jai Courtney, Dina Shihabi, and Ryan Corr.
