Kangana Ranaut’s patriotic drama Tejas released in theatres last Friday, on October 27. The film, as it inches towards its one week completion, seems to have crashed as the Sarvesh Mewara directorial on Thursday earned Rs 40 lakh, making its total Rs 5.5 crore as per industry tracker Sacnilk.

Tejas, on its opening day, earned Rs 1.25 crore, much lower than expected and also did not receive critical praise from film reviewers. However, two other films have released along with Tejas were Vikrant Massey’s 12th Fail, directed by Vidhu Vinod Chopra and Mikhil Musale’s Sajini Shinde Ka Viral Video. Both the films received positive reviews and a positive world of mouth highlighted Vikrant Massey and Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s genius and has been having a good run in cinemas as its total earnings stand at Rs 13.14 crore.

Keeping aside her Chandramukhi 2, Tejas is Kangana’s fifth flop since Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi (2019). Her films Judgementall Hai Kya (2019), Panga (2020), Thalaivii (2021), Dhaakad (2022) have not performed well at the box office. However, the actor’s upcoming directorial Emergency, which she has also acted in and produced, was scheduled to release on November 24, but has now been postponed. Chandramukhi 2’s total earnings wrapped under Rs 40.5 crore.

Reacting to the low footfall for Tejas, Kangaan had taken to her social media platforms to request the audiences to watch the film in theatres. She said, “Even before Covid, theatrical footfalls were dipping drastically post Covid it has become seriously rapid. Many theatres are shutting down and even after free tickets and many reasonable offers drastic footfall decline is continuing. Requesting people to watch films in theatres and enjoy with family and friends or else they (theatres) won’t be able to survive. Thanks.”
