Ajay Devgn starrer Golmaal Again steamrolls competition at the Bollywood box office
'Golmaal Again' has broken all records at the box-office for 2017. The Rohit Shetty comedy starring Ajay Devgn, Tabu, Parineeti Chopra, rashad Warsi, Kunal Kemmu, Tusshar Kapoor and Shreyas Talpade has emerged as the winner in the box-office battles of 2017.

After the roaring success of Varun Dhawan-starrer Judwaa 2, Golmaal Again has made a dent at the box-office proving yet again that we, as an audience, are in love with comedies. The Rohit Shetty film released a day after Aamir Khan’s Secret Superstar and while the two films enjoyed some healthy competition at the box-office, Golmaal Again has gone miles ahead and charmed the audience by providing them a good time at the cinemas.
In terms of box-office numbers, the opening day collections of Golmaal Again were record breaking for 2017. Opening with Rs. 30.14 crore in India, the film made the maximum out of its first day. The Diwali weekend also worked in the film’s favour as it managed to collect Rs 87.60 crore in India which is the highest opening weekend collection for this year. During the first week, when the film was competing with the Zaira Wasim-Aamir Khan starrer Secret Superstar, Golmaal Again managed to rake up Rs. 136.07 crore in India. It has been two weeks since the release of the film and uptil now the film has gathered Rs 179.70 crore at the domestic box-office which is the highest collection for a Bollywood film in 2017 so far.
But what is it that worked in Golmaal Again’s favour?
2017 has been quite a mediocre year for Bollywood. Big ticket films like Tubelight and Jab Harry Met Sejal failed to charm the audience in spite of boasting of A-listers in its star cast. So, when two comedies, Judwaa 2 and Golmaal Again, perform well at the box-office, it hints at the fact that at the end of the day, the audience is just looking to get entertained. Of course, everyone loves a great story with some nice songs but if the film manages to leave the audience with a smile in the end, it has worked its magic.
It is pretty astounding that a franchise’s fourth film has managed to do wonders at the box-office. Constant comparisons to the franchise’s previous films were bound to happen and usually it is quite difficult to compete with nostalgia but the film certainly deserves credit for impressing its audience with a large ensemble cast that also boasts of recurring supporting actors like Sanjai Mishra, Mukesh Tiwari and Vrajesh Hirjee.
Golmaal Again starring Ajay Devgn, Parineeti Chopra, Tabu, Arshad Warsi, Kenal Kemmu and Shreyas Talpade released on October 20 and is still going strong at the box-office.
