Fukrey Returns, the sequel to the 2013 sleeper hit Fukrey which hit the theatres on December 8, has been having a dream run at the box office ever since its release. Featuring an ensemble cast of Varun Sharma, Manjot Singh, Richa Chadha, Ali Fazal and Pulkit Samrat, the film has collected a total of Rs 59.01 crore till now.

Tweeting the latest box office figures of Fukrey Returns Taran Adarsh wrote, “#FukreyReturns witnesses MASSIVE GROWTH [55.59%] on Sat… Expected to score BIG numbers on Sun… Should touch/cross ₹ 65 cr by Weekend 2… [Week 2] Fri 3.31 cr, Sat 5.15 cr. Total: ₹ 59.01 cr. India biz.” Not only has Fukrey had an exceptional growth of more than 50% on its second Saturday, it is also expected to collect Rs 65 crore by the end of this weekend. This is majorly because no other noteworthy films hit the theatres on the Fukrey Returns release date. Even in the second week of the film, only Star Wars: The Last Jedi and Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s Monsoon Shootout hit the theatres.

Fukrey Returns producer Farhan Akhtar also expressed his elation over the film’s success at a recent event and said, “I am very happy with the way the audience has received Fukrey Returns. It’s been a week and the film has performed very well. In this week also, there is no major film releasing. We feel that the film will have a very good run at the box office. It’s been a very very healthy first week.”

If we look at that the recent trend in Bollywood, masala entertainers like Golmaal Again and Judwaa 2 have successfully crossed all box office landmarks with ease. It seems that the audience is actually looking for hearty and lighter content like the one in Fukrey Returns. But what differentiates Fukrey REturns from the rest is probably its smaller budget. As Taran had earlier tweeted, “#FukreyReturns is all set to cross ₹ 30 cr in its opening weekend, which is HUGE considering the economics of the film… An open, unhindered run till #TigerZindaHai arrives [22 Dec 2017] will ensure an IMPRESSIVE total.” Let’s wait and watch how far this multi-starrer will go!
