Boney Kapoor’s daughter Anshula became financially independent in 2022, relied on brother Arjun Kapoor for money: ‘Felt like a burden on him’
Boney Kapoor's daughter, Anshula Kapoor, said that she felt like she was a burden to her brother, Arjun, for making him financially support her well into her adulthood.

Boney Kapoor’s daughter, Anshula, said that she felt like a burden to her brother, Arjun, for making him financially support her well into her adulthood. Anshula said that she became financially independent completely in 2022, and that she now earns a living as a social media influencer. In an interview, Anshula said that she experienced emotional turmoil in her youth, especially after her father separated from her mother, Mona Shourie, and married actor Sridevi. Her self-worth further plummeted when her half-sister, Janhvi Kapoor, was born.
Anshula said that her mother died when she was studying in college in America, and that she took the first job that she was offered once she returned, because she didn’t want to be in Mumbai. “For the longest time, Arjun bhaiya was completely responsible for me, financially and emotionally. I always felt like I was a burden on him, because he was doing for me what he should have, technically, done for his own child. He’s taking care of me like a child, so I’m a financial burden on him, I’m a physical burden on him. Therapy has helped me come out of these thoughts,” she said in an interview with Nayandeep Rakshit.
Anshula said that because of the childhood she had, she was forced to grow up earlier than she would’ve had to normally. “I should make one thing clear, I have grown up in privilege, but my father has worked to give me the privilege. His father, my grandfather, didn’t come from the same socio-economic strata… Even Sonam didi and Arjun bhaiya, to a great extent, didn’t see that privilege for eight or nine years of their life. That part is overlooked when they think about the Kapoor family,” Anshula said.
Anshula said that her first paycheck was for Rs 18,000, and that she took the first job opportunity that she got when she returned to India from college abroad. She worked at Google, and then at Hrithik Roshan’s HRX. Opening up about the phase that she is currently in, Anshula said, “Financial independence does a lot for me. It gives me a sense of security and empowerment and achievement. I was not financially independent when I was an entrepreneur. I became financially independent when I leaned into my journey of becoming a content creator… I was reliant on Arjun. It wasn’t until the end of 2022 that I can safely say that I was financially independent.”
Earlier this week, Anshula announced on Instagram that she had become engaged to partner Rohan Thakkar, whom she started dating in 2022. He proposed to her in New York.
