boAT CEO Aman Gupta says becoming rich strained relationships with family, friends; Kapil Sharma explains why he moved to Netflix from ‘the other channel’
On the The Great Indian Kapil Show, boAt co-founder Aman Gupta spoke about how relationships get sour after money comes in and if people and family members change after seeing their success.
Aman Gupta on the Great Indian Kapil Show. The latest episode of The Great Indian Kapil Show featured some of the country’s top entrepreneurs — Vijay Shekhar Sharma (CEO of Paytm), Aman Gupta (Co-Founder & CMO of boAt), Ritesh Agarwal (CEO of OYO Rooms), and Ghazal Alagh (Co-Founder of Mamaearth). During the interaction, they opened up about the judgments they face from relatives and friends for being rich.
Kapil recently shared a behind-the-scenes clip from the show on his YouTube channel, where he asked the entrepreneurs if relationships get sour after money comes in and if people and family members change after seeing their success. Aman Gupta took this up and said, “When money starts coming in people around you start judging you, they say, ‘ab to yeh bada aadmi ban gaya hai.’ They don’t know that I was always a bada aadmi in my eyes. But you should not be pompous, my mother says that even Ravan’s pride did not last. This keeps me down to earth. It is important to stay humble. Your downfall starts when you let it get to your head.”
Vijay quickly chimed in, “This is the problem in India, one person climbing the ladder is trying to pull the other one down.”
During the conversation, the show’s director interrupted the chat so the crew could fix Vijay’s shirt. In that moment, Kapil jokingly reprimanded the director and said, “Don’t take cut for all these things like something is stuck on the shirt, nobody will even see that. They will be calculating how much money these people have. Don’t take break for all these things, it is because of these things that I came here from the other channel.”
Later in the chat, Vijay also spoke about his love for pani puri. He shared that people often get surprised after looking at the place he eats golgappas from, but he tells them, “I grew up eating here and that’s why my immunity is so strong.” He also revealed that he is a pani puri enthusiast and has tried the much-loved chaat at several places, but he declared, “Delhi ki golgappe best hai.”
