Bindu says she wanted to be heroine but Meena Kumari’s advice led her to do more vamp roles: ‘She said there is no…’
Bindu has been seen in several well-received features, including Ittefaq, Dastaan, Do Raaste, Arjun Pandit, Abhimaan, Zanjeer, Amar Prem, Aunty No 1, Main Hoon Na and Om Shanti Om.

Bindu was active in the film industry for four decades, and was at her peak in the 1970s, doing movie after movie. She was known for her dance numbers and for essaying the role of a quintessential vamp at the time.
The actor recently opened up about how she too, like many others, had once harboured the idea of becoming a leading lady, but fate had other plans.
Speaking to Bollywood Hungama, Bindu said, “Aisa lagta tha ki agar main heroine banti toh kya? (What if I was not a vamp, but a leading heroine)? However, when people gave me so much love, I got awards, then I was like, ‘Chuck this heroine business, I will do vamp roles since here I am the only one, there is no competition.'”
Bindu’s decision to not stray from her path was further bolstered by legendary actor Meena Kumari’s advice. Bindu said Meena once told her while they were putting up in the same hotel, that she should forget about the idea of becoming a heroine and instead focus all her energies on giving a great performance.
“Meena ji said, ‘The role that you are doing right now, there is no competition and you are doing it so well, you are becoming famous, everyone knows you now. So don’t think about becoming a heroine right now, otherwise you will lose this too. This is my advice to you,'” Bindu recalled.
Bindu has been seen in several well-received features, including Ittefaq, Dastaan, Do Raaste, Arjun Pandit, Abhimaan, Zanjeer, Amar Prem, Aunty No 1, Main Hoon Na and Om Shanti Om. She was last seen in the 2008 movie Mehbooba, with Ajay Devgn and Manisha Koirala.
