Bhumi Pednekar has been in two films with Akshay Kumar, Raksha Bandhan and Toilet Ek Prem Katha. When she recently appeared in an interview, a curious fan asked her if she also recites her dialogue the way Akshay does it – by reading it from cue cards while giving the shot. Bhumi described this as Akshay’s “talent” and “an art”.

Bhumi said that contrary to what people might think, Akshay actually memorises his lines beforehand but there is a person holding up his dialogues on a board during the take. She shared with The Lallantop, “Akshay sir actually memorises his lines. I asked him, ‘Why do you have this?’ He said, ‘So that I am in the moment’. So I was like, maybe its is his process.”

When asked by the interviewer if there is person holding a board behind the camera, she shared, “Somewhere there will be (a person), you will not even realise it. But the thing is that he knows his lines because he has done the lines with me before. So I don’t know his process… its is his own process.” Bhumi shared her own take on it and added, “I think maybe he feels some kind of security.” She also added that this is a “talent that everyone cannot have” and recalled what Akshay told her, “He told me that even Marlon Brando used to do it.”

When asked how Bhumi learns her lines, she shared that she memorises them writing them repeatedly as she is not very good with learning her lines. But she admitted, that she too, has tried Akshay’s method once but couldn’t really make it work. “I tried it once, that is also an art,” she said and added, “There was a very long monologue in Durgamati. I couldn’t do it. It’s impossible. I don’t know how he does it.”

Bhumi Pednekar is currently promoting her latest release Bhakshak.
