Bhool Chuk Maaf box office collection day 1: Despite much back and forth between a theatrical and OTT release, a legal dispute with a major cinema chain, and mixed reviews from critics, Rajkummar Rao and Wamiqa Gabbi’s Bhool Chuk Maaf opened to decent numbers at the box office on Friday. According to Sacnilk, the film earned Rs 7.2 crore on its opening day.

Though the Rajkummar Rao-starrer managed to get a decent start, it failed to surpass the first day box office collection of Akshay Kumar’s Kesari Chapter 2: The Untold Story of Jallianwala Bagh, which earned around Rs 7.75 crore. Bhool Chuk Maaf also could not outdo other major releases this year, such as Sunny Deol’s Jaat, which minted Rs 9.5 crore on its opening day. However, it did surpass John Abraham’s The Diplomat, which opened with Rs 4 crore. Shahid Kapoor’s Devaa also earned less than the Rajkummar Rao-starrer, opening at Rs 5.5 crore.

Bhool Chuk Maaf also faced competition from Sooraj Pancholi’s Kesari Veer, which released on the same day. That film had a disappointing start, collecting only Rs 25 lakh on its first day.

When compared with other Rajkummar Rao films, Bhool Chuk Maaf has performed better than the actor’s last release, Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video, which earned Rs 5.5 crore on opening day. It has outperformed his other recent release Srikanth, Rs 2.25 crore, while his Mr and Mrs Mahi earned the exact same amount as this one. Stree 2 remains the biggest opener of the actor’s career, as it made Rs 51 crore on opening day.

Bhool Chuk Maaf recorded an overall 19.36 percent occupancy across India. The morning shows began with 9.4 percent occupancy, but this gradually increased throughout the day, peaking at 31.27 percent by night. The film performed best in the National Capital Region (NCR), recording a 21.5 percent occupancy. In Bengaluru, it saw 25 percent, while Mumbai and Pune saw 19.5 percent and 17.75 percent occupancy, respectively. It is yet to be seen if Bhool Chuk Maaf can sustain the same numbers as unlike other Hindi releases, this will release on OTT platforms in two weeks.

Bhool Chuk Maaf is directed by Karan Sharma, and produced by Dinesh Vijan’s Maddock Films. Apart from Rajkummar and Wamiqa, the film also stars Seema Pahwa, Sanjay Mishra, Zakir Hussain and Raghubir Yadav in pivotal roles.
