Bajirao Mastani song Malhari recreated in Marvel show What if…?, watch video

In the second episode of What If…? Season 3, Kumail Nanjiani’s Kingo, the superhero of Indian heritage and a Bollywood sensation, is seen dancing to “Malhari” from the 2015 Sanjay Leela Bhansali directorial Bajirao Mastani.

Bajirao Mastani song “Malhari”, featuring Ranveer Singh, has been reimagined in Marvel show What If…? Season 3. Indian Marvel enthusiasts were pleasantly surprised when the Vishal Dadlani composition was featured in the second episode.

What if…? focuses on key canon events in Marvel storylines and reimagines what would have happened if these events never occurred.

In the second episode of What If…? Season 3, Kumail Nanjiani’s Kingo, the superhero of Indian heritage and a Bollywood sensation, is seen dancing to “Malhari” from the 2015 Sanjay Leela Bhansali directorial. The reimagining in What If…? combines Marvel’s distinctive storytelling with Dadlani’s lively musical score. Fans lauded the scene for its genuineness and the tribute it paid to Indian cinema.

This isn’t the first instance of Marvel experimenting with cultural fusion within its stories, but this move takes South Asian representation to new heights. For several Indian fans, it was exhilarating to witness a much-loved Bollywood in the Marvel Universe.

Meanwhile, Sanjay Leela Bhansali is currently busy with Love & War, starring Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, and Vicky Kaushal in the lead roles. The movie is scheduled to hit screens on March 20, 2026.
