Vicky Kaushal, Triptii Dimri and Ammy Virk-starrer Bad Newz has finally hit the big screen. While the movie has opened to mixed reviews with special mention of Vicky Kaushal’s performance, do you know it is inspired by a true story? In 2022, a rare medical condition was all over the news after a 19-year-old Brazalian woman gave birth to twins who had two different biological fathers.

According to Daily Mail, the anonymous 19-year-old girl from Minerios in Goias, Brazil, explained that she took a paternity test because she wanted to confirm who the father was using the sample of the person she had thought was the father. However, after the test she found that only one of her kids showed positive for the DNA test while the other one did not. According to report, after the test she remembered having involved in an intercourse with another man on the same day, whose DNA then matched with the second twin.

This bizarre biological phenomenon is called heteropaternal superfecundation–which is quite common in dogs, cats, and cows, according to The Guardian.

In simple words, the phenomenon takes place when a woman releases two eggs at the same time or a few days apart in the same reproductive cycle and is sexually involved with multiple partners.

Bad Newz, directed by Anand Tiwari, is more or less based on the same phenomenon and inspired by the 2022 case. It is a spiritual sequel to the 2019 film Good Newwz starring Akshay Kumar, Kareena Kapoor, Kiara Advani and Diljit Dosanjh in the lead roles.

The 2022 case was not the only time when this condition came in light. So far, around 25 such cases have been reported around the world. In 1982, twins who were born with two different skin colours were discovered to be conceived as a result of heteroparental superfecundation. A similar case was also reported in 1995, 2001, 2008, 2015, 2016, and 2019.

In 2019, it was reported that a Chinese woman from Xiamen City gave birth to twins from separate fathers. According to Times Now, the twins’ father was suspicious that one of the babies didn’t look like him and the mother was forced to admit that she cheated on her husband in a one-night stand. The final DNA results of the babies confused the father and the mother was left with no choice but to tell the truth, reported Strait Herald.

Bad Newz is currently running in the theatres. The film is eyeing to be Vicky Kaushal’s biggest opener with a collection between Rs 9 to 10 crore, according to Pinkvilla.
