Ashneer Grover first rose to fame when he appeared as a judge on the first season of Shark Tank India. Ashneer was liked by the audience for his no-nonsense attitude where he was blunt and honest with the contestants. Ashneer, recently, gave a glimpse of his blunt honesty when he spoke about Bollywood stars and said that they should have confidence in their stardom and charge money only when the film makes money, instead of charging the producers with Rs 100 crore salary.

In a chat with Bollywood Bubble, Ashneer said that Bollywood stars are “overvalued” than start-up founders and said, “All the superstars are overvalued. Like, do you think the film is working in your name? Then why are you charging any money? Then you should have equity. I get surprised when people say that this superstar has charged Rs 40 crore, someone else has charged Rs 80 crore, someone else has taken Rs 100 crore, and the film is making like Rs 20 crore.”

Ashneer said that when he sees the low returns, he wonders if stars have any faith in their own stardom. “I am thinking, ‘What are you even doing?’ You should have faith in your own stardom and say that I will make money only when the film makes money. So sometimes I am very surprised that such big stars are also living on salaries. Have some confidence and work on equity,” he said. In the last few months, conversations around Bollywood stars charging massive fees has gained steam.

Ashneer is the host of a new captive reality show called Rise and Fall on Amazon MX Player. Ashneer did not return to Shark Tank India after the first season as he claimed that he asked for a higher salary from the makers but they were not ready to negotiate. The show has been going on for four seasons now with other judges taking his place. Meanwhile, Ashneer has also hinted that a biopic based on his life is also in the works.
