Aryan Khan has a phobia of smiling on camera, he’s exactly like Shah Rukh Khan, say The Ba***ds of Bollywood cast; Bobby Deol calls him a ‘tough taskmaster’
The Ba***ds of Bollywood cast Lakshya Lalwani, Sahher Bambba, Bobby Deol and Raghav Juyal spoke about their experience of working with debutant director Aryan Khan.

As fans wait with bated breath for the release of The Ba**ds of Bollywood, the cast of the show — Lakshya Lalwani, Sahher Bambba, Bobby Deol, Raghav Juyal, and Anya Singh — recently spoke about their experience of working with debutant director Aryan Khan. They admitted that the clarity and determination of Shah Rukh Khan’s son left them pleasantly surprised.
In a conversation with Bollywood Hungama, Bobby Deol revealed that he immediately said yes to the show after being told it was directed by Aryan Khan and produced by Shah Rukh Khan. Praising Aryan, Bobby said, “I saw something in him, even before he asked me to play the role. I could see he has so much fire and determination to achieve something in life.”
Recalling the first time Aryan narrated the show’s storyline to him, he added, “Aryan insisted that he narrates me the whole storyline which is seven episodes. So I sat with him for almost 7 hours and I was taken by his conviction. I realise that this kid is going to make something special.”
However, Bobby also admitted that Aryan was a tough director. “He was a tough task master. He brought the best out of us. He made us take a lot of takes.” He continued, “He wanted what he had written to come across.”
Sahher Bambba, who plays the female lead in the show, shared that the auditions for Aryan Khan’s project were the most “gruelling and longest auditions ever.”
Lakshya Lalwani recalled his audition experience and revealed that he auditioned while shooting for his debut film Kill. He narrated how Aryan casually told him he was selected while inviting him for a party in Dubai. “I was holiday in Dubai and Aryan got to know that I was in Dubai and he was also in Dubai at that time. So, he invited me for a party and told me, ‘Aaja raat ko party karte hai achha tu show kar raha hai haan (Come for the party, also you are doing the show).’ I was like you are telling this so casually to me, you are going to change my life.”
Raghav Juyal, who plays Lakshya’s friend in the series, chimed in, “Whole Mumbai, whole Aaram Nagar gave audition for this show.” Both Lakshya and Raghav also shared how Aryan would enact scenes for them with complete sincerity. “Even during slap scenes, he would slap himself to show how to do it.“
Talking about Aryan as a director, Sahher said, “He is very sharp and witty, and he is very clear with his vision. He’s great as a director. He is lovely as a person and as they say – apple doesn’t fall far from the tree – he is exactly like his father, very chivalrous and an amazing person and really sensitive and funny.” Calling Aryan down-to-earth, Anya Singh added, “He is very warm and he made us feel very normal on his set, you never felt anything different because he was an Aryan Khan.”
While Aryan may come off as introverted and reserved in public, the cast revealed that he is completely different in person. Lakshya shared, “I was blown away. He is very different. He’s just like us. He is a boys boy. In spite of being a privileged kid, he knows both worlds so well. He knows mine and his world, so well that’s what he shows in the show.”
Speaking about Aryan’s serious expressions in public, Lakshya further said, “He has a phobia to smile in front of the camera, but he is just like us. He has a very child like energy in him. I think the girls really like his serious expressions.”
