Yami Gautam-starrer Article 370 dropped its trailer on Thursday. The film is based on the events that led to the revocation of the special status of Jammu and Kashmir and while the trailer says that it is ‘inspired by true events’, the claim is debatable.

Yami Gautam plays an intelligence officer in the film, who is seemingly going through a personal loss, and is then given a “free hand” as she is posted in Kashmir to lead a mission. The film is loud, violent and jingoistic, and looks like a follow-up to The Kashmir Files which released in 2022. The Kashmir Files was criticised for its propaganda-like content but emerged as a success at the box office.

The film is being produced by Aditya Dhar, who previously directed Uri: The Surgical Strike and won a National Film Award for Best Director for the same.

Article 370 is releasing just a few months before the 18th Lok Sabha elections and is clear in its messaging. “Poora ka Poora Kashmir, Bharat Desh ka hissa tha, hai aur rahega! (The entire of Kashmir was, is and will always be a part of India),” reads the YouTube description of the film.

Alongside Yami Gautam, the film also stars Priyamani and Arun Govil. Article 370 is releasing in theatres on February 23. The film has been directed by Aditya Suhas Jambhale.

Just a few weeks ago, Pankaj Tripathi-led Main Atal Hoon released in theatres but did not receive any positive reviews from the critics or the audience. Kangana Ranaut-starrer Emergency, where she is playing the lead role of Indira Gandhi is also set to release around the time of Lok Sabha elections.
