Archana Puran Singh says her co-judges didn’t like her laughing at jokes made on them: ‘It impacts our dignity’

She said, “My co-judges used to get all disappointed when I used to laugh at jokes made on them. They used to be like, ‘Archana why do you laugh at jokes made on us? Judges ki garima kam hojayegi (This brings down judge’s dignity.) I had no clue what the word garima meant, I had to look for it in dictionary.”

She added, “For once Rohit Shetty laughed at these jokes, but Shekhar used to remain quiet.”

Speaking about laughing at jokes at her, the actress said, “I don’t feel bad when Kapil makes jokes on me.” She explained, “My reaction to his jokes on me are not forced, I truly find them extremely funny and I laugh.”

Archana shared how letting these comedians make jokes on her improved their comic skills. She said, “Whenever all of you delivered punch lines on me (during comedy circus), you guys used to be a bit worried about it, but when you saw me laugh at it, you all got better at it. Other judges would get really upset.”

In the same interview, Archana shared, after a point Shekhar Suman got conscious about not allowing jokes on him and eventually had to give in looking at Archana Puran Singh enjoy jokes about her.

Previously, Archana Puran Singh had opened up about fake laughing at certain jokes. She shared the makers thought that if she will laugh at bad jokes, people will find them funny too.

During a media interaction before the release of season 2 of The Great Indian Kapil Show, the actress said, “Earlier people used to say that I laughed at bad jokes as well, I was not happy with it. What used to happen then is that if a particular joke didn’t have the punch, they (the makers) thought that if we use Archana’s laughter then woh punch utth jaayega (it’ll make people laugh), but it didn’t work that way, woh punch nahi utha, but main hi baith gayi (it didn’t become funnier, and I was criticised instead). People started to think, ‘this woman is mad, she is laughing for nothing. The integrity of my laughter took the beating.”

She said, over the years, her laughter has become more like a feedback and she only laughs if she really felt the joke was funny.
