AR Rahman reveals he was doubtful about doing Maidaan: ‘When I first saw the film, my question was why am I doing this?’

Ajay Devgn and Priyamani starrer Maidaan is all set to release on April 10. While the trailer for the sports drama received a positive response, AR Rahman‘s song “Mirza” has also found takers. Recently, the music maestro shared he had doubts about working on Maidaan when he saw it for the first time. Rahman even introspected on how the film gave him an understanding of how sometimes things get perceived. He even praised director Amit Ravindernath Sharma’s perfection in Maidaan.

In an interview with Connect FM Canada, Rahman said, “When I first saw Maidaan, it didn’t have the CGI. My question was why am I doing this film? I have done a sports film already so what am I going to do new in it. Then when I saw it again, I thought there was a lot we could do, like bring the humanity, the romance out, the powerful female character out.”

He added, “Then you realize it’s your mind which can do or not do things. So the way you take it is very important. It is very similar to how you take life. Now we have finished the song and it is done with the brilliant Amit Sharma who is so particular about every little frame and sound. He has dedicated four years of his life to this film.”

Maidaan is a biographical sports drama produced by Boney Kapoor. It chronicles the life of football coach Syed Abdul Rahim who revolutionized the sport in India.

Other than Maidaan, AR Rahman has also worked on the music for Amar Singh Chamkila, which stars Diljit Dosanjh and Parineeti Chopra in the lead roles.
