AR Rahman reacts after Pune police storms stage and tells him to stop performing: ‘Did we just have a Rockstar moment?’
AR Rahman's concert in Pune was abruptly cut short after a policeman walked onto the stage and told the Oscar-winner to stop.

Music icon AR Rahman was made to abruptly halt a show in Pune, after exceeding the time allotted to him. He took to Twitter to share a video of the concert, which included a shot of a policeman walking onto the stage to tell him to wrap things up. The policeman pointed to his watch, and walked the entire length of the stage, before gesturing at Rahman and walking off.
Rahman was in the middle of performing the song ‘Chaiyya Chaiyya’ when the police told him to stop the show, videos from the event reveal. While Rahman initially said that he’d perform one last song, he cut the performance short entirely. He said, “That’s it, we’re done, time’s over. I like this.”
Did we all just have the “Rockstar” moment on stage yesterday? I think we did!
We were overwhelmed by the love of the audience and kept wanting to give more..

On Monday evening, he took to Twitter and shared a video of the incident. “Did we all just have the ‘Rockstar’ moment on stage yesterday? I think we did! We were overwhelmed by the love of the audience and kept wanting to give more… Pune, thank you once again for such a memorable evening. Here’s a little snippet of our roller coaster ride;).” The video shows glimpses of Rahman’s performance, including the moment when a policeman walked onto the stage.
Smartana Patil, DCP Zone 2, Pune Police, said according to news agency ANI, “Rahman was singing his last song, and while singing he did not realise that it was already past 10 pm, so our police official who was at the venue went and conveyed to him the deadline to be followed as per the SC guidelines after that he stopped singing.” A senior officer with the Pune city police said the musical event was not allowed after 10 pm in line with the Supreme Court’s order. “So a few minutes past 10 pm, the police reminded the organisers of the event to stop the live show and follow the law. The organisers co-operated with the police and concluded the event,” the officer told Indian Express.
