Anurag Kashyap says ‘main bahut gareeb hu’ after Kennedy, asks Vikramaditya Motwane to buy him a drink

Anurag Kashyap, who is attending the ongoing Cannes Film Festival for the premiere of Kennedy, recently said that he did not even know about the film festival when he was making his first film. In a video shared by Ranjan Singh, the CEO of Good Bad Films, Anurag and Vikramaditya Motwane can be heard reminiscing about the old days and how Anurag didn’t even have a passport when he was making his first film Paanch.

In the same video, Anurag recalled that the “biggest high” for him at that time was that in the 1998 edition of IFFI Goa, two of his films had been included – Satya and Jayate.

In another video shared by Ranjan, the two filmmakers shared that back in 2010, when Motwane’s Udaan was a part of the festival, Kashyap was there to support him and now, Motwane was there to support the Kennedy director. Anurag can he heard in the video saying, “Vikram gareeb tha 2010 mein. Aaj Kennedy hai, main bahut gareeb hun. Isne Jubilee bana ke paise kama liye (Vikram was poor back in 2010, and today with Kennedy, I am poor. He has made money with Jubilee.)” Then Anurag laughs and asks Vikram, “Kal daru pilayega? (Will you buy me a drink tomorrow?)”

Anurag’s film premiered at the 76th edition of the Cannes Film Festival. Kennedy stars Rahul Bhat and Sunny Leone in lead roles. In an earlier chat with Film Companion, Anurag had revealed that he wanted to cast Vikram in the lead role but he couldn’t get in touch with the actor. “I only cast people who are totally available and who will give everything. I did not write Kennedy for Rahul Bhat. I had a specific actor in mind when I wrote this script, which is why the film was called Kennedy Project. It was Chiyaan Vikram. His real name is Kennedy (Kennedy John Victor). I reached out to him, but he never responded,” he said.

However, Vikram later took to Twitter and shared he did get back to Anurag after he heard from a mutual friend that the director was trying to get in touch with him. “When I heard from another actor that you had tried to reach me for this film and that you felt I hadn’t responded to you, I called you myself immediately and explained that I hadn’t gotten any mail or msg from you as the mail id that you had contacted me on was no longer active and my number had changed almost 2 years before that. As I said during that phone call, I’m very excited for your film Kennedy and even more so because it has my name. I wish you great times ahead,” he wrote.
