Anurag Kashyap says he can never work with Shah Rukh Khan because of his fandom: ‘It will be another Bombay Velvet for me’
Anurag Kashyap feels if he works with Shah Rukh Khan, it will prove to be as disastrous for him as his 2015 dud Bombay Velvet, which featured Ranbir Kapoor in the lead role.

Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap feels he won’t ever be able to work with Shah Rukh Khan. And, this has nothing to do with the actor, but with his huge fanbase. Kashyap feels if he works with Shah Rukh, it will prove to be as disastrous for him as his 2015 dud Bombay Velvet, which featured Ranbir Kapoor in the lead role.
In a recent interview with Bollywood Bubble, Kashyap explained his reason for deciding not to work with SRK, one of the biggest names in the Indian film industry. He said, “I won’t be able to work with him (SRK). His persona is so big. I am worried it will become a Bombay Velvet for me. I will drown in it. It is a very difficult job. It is a dream and it will stay like that always, vahan nahi pohnch sakta main kabhi..(I can’t reach there).”
It is not like Anurag Kashyap hasn’t tried working with Shah Rukh Khan. The filmmaker said he had tried a couple of times, but it didn’t work out. Also, being a director who tries to do something new with every film, Kashyap feels he would never be able to make the fans of SRK happy.
Anurag Kashyap says the expectations of Shah Rukh Khan’s fans scare him
The Gangs of Wasseypur director shared, “He is Shah Rukh Khan. He is King Khan. He is a big mainstream actor. My problem is not with him at all. His fans have an expectation like Ranbir’s fans had expectations. Big stars come with a fan following and the fan following is what I am scared of because the fan following cancels you. If you are not up to the expectations…I am constantly trying to do something new. The larger the fanbase is, they don’t want you to do something new. So, I don’t want to become the catalyst for them to cancel either… I will get cancelled first, and the actor also gets dissed, So, I would rather stay away from it.”
Anurag Kashyap was recently seen in a negative role in Haddi, a ZEE5 film, starring Nawazuddin Siddiqui in the lead role. He will next be seen in Lokesh Kanagaraj’s Leo which is scheduled for October release.
