Anurag Basu reacts to Triptii Dimri being dropped from Aashiqui 3 for being ‘too exposed’ after bold scenes: ‘Not true, she knows it’
Anurag Basu recently addressed rumours of Triptii Dimri being dropped from Kartik Aaryan-starrer Aashiqui 3 for not having 'purity in demeanour'. The allegations have received a lot of criticism.

Fans of Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 were eager to see the film’s lead stars, Kartik Aaryan and Triptii Dimri, reunite on the big screen for another hit franchise—Aashiqui 3. This excitement grew after Dimri had done look tests for the film and even performed in the mahurat shot. However, recent developments took an unexpected turn when the film’s director, Anurag Basu, confirmed that Triptii would not be part of the project. Rumours had circulated that Triptii was dropped from the film due to being ‘too exposed’ for the romantic film, which supposedly required a ‘purity in demeanour’ from its female lead.
Reports suggested that Triptii’s bold scenes in Animal were the reason for her exit, with claims that these scenes made her unsuitable for Aashiqui 3’s traditional portrayal of innocence and purity in its female leads. However, Anurag Basu recently addressed these rumours, setting the record straight. During an interaction with Mid Day, when asked if Triptii was dropped because of her ‘purity in demeanor,’ Basu replied, “That’s not true,” further adding, “Triptii knows it too.”
With Triptii’s departure, the makers of Aashiqui 3 are now actively searching for a new female lead. The film is expected to begin production in January or the early weeks of February.
Triptii had gained widespread recognition after her pivotal role in Ranbir Kapoor’s Animal, though she faced backlash for her intimate scenes with Kapoor. In a previous conversation on Ranveer Allahbadia’s podcast, Triptii opened up about the toll the hate and “nasty comments” took on her. She shared, “I cried a lot after Animal, for at least two-three days. I was not used to this at all. This happened all of a sudden, and I never expected I would have to face criticism of this magnitude. People were writing rubbish, and you know how nasty they can get,” she had said.
On the work front, Triptii is currently busy with the shooting of Vishal Bhardwaj’s upcoming film Arjun Ustara. Initially, Kartik was slated to star opposite her, but the role is now being headlined by Vishal’s trusted collaborator Shahid Kapoor, who has previously worked with the director on films like Haider, Rangoon, and Kaminey. Additionally, Triptii has Karan Johar’s Dhadak 2 in the pipeline, where she will star opposite Siddhant Chaturvedi.
