Animal: Rashmika Mandanna’s first look from Ranbir Kapoor-starrer is all about determination and enigma

As the eagerly awaited action thriller Animal, featuring Ranbir Kapoor in the lead role, draws closer to its December 1 release date, the film’s makers are sparing no effort to maintain the buzz and anticipation surrounding the movie. A day after revealing Anil Kapoor’s character poster from the movie, director Sandeep Reddy Vanga and team released actor Rashmika Mandanna’s first look from Animal, boosting excitement levels.
Sharing the poster on social media, Rashmika revealed that her character is named Geetanjali. The intriguing poster showcases her in a maroon and white checkered silk saree with a smeared bindi on her forehead and her hair messily tied back. Nevertheless, she exudes confidence with an eerie smile at the corner of her lips, conveying determination and enigma.
Helmed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga, Animal is jointly bankrolled by T-Series and Cine1 Studios. The film also features Bobby Deol, Tripti Dimri, and Shakti Kapoor in key roles. The film’s official teaser is scheduled to be unveiled on September 28.
Originally set for an August 11 release, Animal was postponed to December 1 due to Vanga’s explanation that the production process for creating songs in multiple languages for the film was taking longer than expected. In addition to Hindi, the film will be released in Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, and Malayalam as well. The pre-teaser for the film, released in June, offered glimpses of the world of Animal, emphasising that it will be an adrenaline-pumping action thriller.

Sandeep Reddy Vanga is known for directing the Telugu blockbuster Arjun Reddy, which starred Vijay Deverakonda, and its Hindi remake, Kabir Singh, featuring Shahid Kapoor in the lead role. Both versions garnered immense success at the box office, although they faced criticism for their celebration of toxic masculinity.
Previously, Vanga had said that he was going to show what true violence was with Animal. During a chat with Anupama Chopra, when she mentioned that she hoped his next after Kabir Singh would generate less criticism, the filmmaker said, “It will be more,” and laughed. “It will be more. These guys are calling this (Kabir Singh) a violent film, I want to tell them I will show them what a violent film will be. Now I am curious, how these guys are going to react. I don’t hate them, (but) I want to see how they feel about my next film. I am waiting, seriously. Someone called it a violent film, so I was taken aback. We will see,” he had said.

On the other hand, Ranbir Kapoor said that Animal made him realise how inadequate he was as an actor and pushed him to work hard. “It’s a new territory for me. It’s a crime drama and a father-son story. It’s something audiences don’t expect me to do. It has got shades of grey. He is very alpha, again something I’m not.”
“So, I’m looking forward to it. It is completely out of my comfort zone. As an actor, such challenges are important as it really shook me up. It made me work hard, and realise how inadequate I’m and how much I needed to work to reach a certain level,” the actor told PTI earlier this year.
