‘Alka Yagnik was Nadeem-Shravan’s singer, Anuradha Paudwal was Gulshan Kumar’s’: Lawyer says Nadeem was ‘mastermind’ in Gulshan Kumar’s murder

When Gulshan Kumar, the founder of T-Series, was assassinated in broad daylight in 1997, it sent shivers through Bollywood. At this time, stories about Bollywood’s connections with underworld criminals were beginning to surface, but no one had ever expected that a prominent film producer would be killed in the middle of the street. When the investigation began, music composer Nadeem Saifi’s (of the Nadeem-Shravan duo) name came up as one of the conspirators and soon after, Nadeem fled the country. In a new interview, public prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam said that Nadeem was the “mastermind” of the conspiracy. When asked why Gulshan Kumar was killed, Ujjwal suggested that it could have something to do with the supposed rivalry between singers Anuradha Paudwal and Alka Yagnik.

In a conversation with Shubhankar Mishra on his YouTube channel, Ujjwal was asked if Nadeem was involved in Gulshan Kumar’s murder, and he said, “Yes, he was. That’s why he is not coming back. He is not facing the trial. Why else would he not face the trial?” Nadeem lived in the UK for many years and is now living in Dubai. Ujjwal said that a few years ago, Nadeem expressed that he wanted to come back. “He had a proposal that I want to come back, I said, ‘Sure, come back and face the trial.’ He doesn’t want to,” he said and added, “When we tried to extradite him from London, we spoke to him then.”

When the prosecutor was asked why Gulshan Kumar was killed, he said, “That’s a different story.” He added, “Anuradha Paudwal inki singer thi, Alka Yagnik unki singer thi. Bas (Anuradha Paudwal was Gulshan Kumar’s singer, Alka Yagnik was Nadeem-Shravan’s singer. That’s it).” He further said that the police believes Nadeem to be the key conspirator behind the murder. “Police believe it was Nadeem. He conspired. Police believe that the conspiracy to murder was done on Nadeem’s orders and the conspiracy happened in Dubai,” he said.

After Nadeem Saifi moved to the UK in the late 1990s, many film producers continued to work with him. It was during this phase that film albums composed by Nadeem-Shravan did not carry the credit for any music composer. Nadeem has been claiming his innocence since the murder, but has never returned to India.
