Ali Abbas Zafar reveals Katrina Kaif was the first choice for Bade Miyan Chote Miyan: ‘She couldn’t do our film because…’
Filmmaker Ali Abbas Zafar expressed disappointment at not being unable to cast Katrina Kaif for Bade Miyan Chote Miyan due to her prior commitments.

Bollywood actor Katrina Kaif and filmmaker Ali Abbas Zafar have forged a fruitful collaboration over the years. While their partnership was slated to continue with Zafar’s upcoming venture, Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, Kaif’s packed schedule dashed those plans. In a recent interview, Zafar shed light on the situation, expressing his disappointment at being unable to secure Kaif for the project due to her prior commitments.
In an interview with News18, Zafar said, “She couldn’t do our film because she was busy with something else. I just hope that she keeps her dates free for my next film.”
Zafar also admitted that Katrina is his first choice for the leading female roles in all his films. Talking about their bond, he said, “Katrina is always on my mind when it comes to making any film. If I don’t cast her, she calls and tells me, ‘Why aren’t you taking me in your film?’ She said the same this time around too. Whenever I’ve worked with her, we’ve always shared a great bond as a director-actor duo,” he said.
Praising Kaif’s talent, Zafar emphasised that her potential as an actor remains largely untapped. “I feel there’s a lot of potential in her as an actor. Be it Bharat, Mere Brother Ki Dulhan or Tiger Zinda Hai, she has done some really good work with me. Every time I make a film, the first call I get is from Katrina where she complains about me not casting her. She often asks, ‘Why am I not being offered this film?,” he said.
Katrina played the lead role in Zafar’s directorial debut Mere Brother Ki Dulhan. Since then they collaborated for two more projects including Tiger Zinda Hai and Bharat.
Zafar’s upcoming film Bade Miyan Chote Miyan stars Tiger Shroff and Akshay Kumar in the lead roles. The film sees Manushi Chillar and Alaya F playing their love interests. The film’s trailer, unveiled earlier, teased a high-octane action thriller featuring elite soldiers on a mission to thwart a masked villain’s evil plan involving an AI weapon. Malayalam star Prithviraj Sukumaran takes on the role of the antagonist in the action flick.
Scheduled for release on April 10, just ahead of the Eid holidays, Bade Miyan Chote Miyan is set to go head-to-head with the Ajay Devgn-starrer Maidaan at the box office.
