Akshay Kumar was working as a light man when Govinda told him, ‘tu hero kyun nahi ban jata’: ‘I said why are you joking’

Akshay Kumar is without a doubt one of the most successful Bollywood heroes. However, Kumar had once credited Govinda for his Bollywood career and had revealed how it was Govinda who encouraged him to become a hero at the time when he worked as a light man with a celebrity photographer.

A video of Akshay talking about how Govinda was the first person to see him as a hero is going viral on the internet. Here, he is seen talking about the role Govinda has played in his career.  In the video he says, “Before becoming an actor I worked as a light man with a photographer. I had clicked a lot of pictures of actors as a light boy, I had clicked Govinda sahab’s photo also. I still remember how when he was seeing his picture (that I had clicked) and he happened to look at me and told me ‘beta tu hero kyun nahi ban jaataa, hero lagta hai tu (son, why don’t you become a hero, you look like a hero)’ and I was like ‘kyun mazaak kar rahe ho (why are you joking), see your pictures.”

While Govinda and Akshay ended up becoming two super successful superstars of the 80’s and 90’s the two also shared screen space in Bhagam Bhag (2006).

On the work front Govinda was last seen in Rangeela Raja (2019) and has not signed any film after that. Akshay, on the other hand, was last seen in Selfiee (2022) and is all set for his next OMG 2 to release on August 11.
