Aditya Roy Kapur recalls going for auditions out of guilt over his ‘semi-famous’ status: ‘I just fell into acting’
Aditya Roy Kapur revealed that before becoming an actor, he wanted to be a cricketer like "half of the country."

Bollywood heartthrob Aditya Roy Kapur recently spilled the beans on his unexpected path to stardom, while appearing on the new season of Kareena Kapoor Khan’s chat show What Women Want. He also opened up about his cricket aspirations and how he ended up in Bollywood instead. “I started off not wanting to get into anything showbiz. I wanted to be a cricketer like half of the country, but that didn’t work out very well. I just fell into acting. I was a video jockey (VJ) even though that was not something I was drawn to.”
He also shared that this unexpected experience prepared him for acting, a career he didn’t know he wanted to pursue in the long run as he caught himself going for auditions out of guilt of being “semi-famous”. He said, “But that was a fun job, I was in college and I did that for four, four-and-a-half years. In a way, it was like my acting school because I was in front of the camera every day just making a fool of myself, being silly in front of the camera. Somehow then, acting just happened because I was semi-famous. I used to get calls for auditions that I wouldn’t want to go for; some I would go out of guilt because I didn’t really grow up wanting to be an actor.”
Aditya’s breakthrough came with London Dreams (2009), alongside Salman Khan and Ajay Devgn. He further said that’s when he got to explore the actor in him. “Then I got this, my first film which I fell in love with. It was engaging in a different way. As a VJ you are a version of yourself… But this was giving me a chance to do more varied things and apply my mind in a different way. So my first film was a blast. London Dreams was my first film, with Salman (Khan) bhai and Ajay (Devgn) sir. (It was) crazy.”
Currently, Aditya is riding high on the success of the International Emmy-nominated web series The Night Manager. He was also seen in the Hindi film Gumraah. His upcoming projects include Rakt Brahmand.
