Abhishek Bachchan reveals Anurag Kashyap would hide one camera on Manmarziyaan sets: ‘I was old school in that respect’

Abhishek Bachchan recently highlighted the evolving landscape of Hindi cinema, emphasising the increased integration of realism even in mainstream commercial films. In a recent interaction, the actor discussed the industry’s shift towards finding a balance between realism and fantasy.

During a roundtable discussion hosted by Galatta Plus, Abhishek said, “The biggest change in the industry is that even in mainstream commercial cinema, there is an element of realism which is coming in and how we manage to find that balance between realism with the fantastical is the sweet spot we need to hit. Earlier, you acted for the camera. Today I feel the audience and the actors have been brought up on a steady diet of world cinema. So there is exposure to different type of acting and I feel there is less emphasis on acting for the camera.”

Sharing an anecdote from the sets of Manmarziyaan, the actor said, “A couple of years ago I was doing Manmarziyaan. There were two cameras on the set. One was in front of you and Anurag used to hide the other one. It was the first time I worked on a set up like that and I was old school in that respect because I need to know where the camera and the light is. I was very technical. But today, I feel there is a lot of freedom of movement that has come in.”

Manmarziyaan also starred Vicky Kaushal and Taapsee Pannu in lead roles. The film was a blockbuster and also garnered praise from critics.
