Actor Abhishek Bachchan has opened up about facing highs and lows in his 23-year career and said things may not have gone his way every time, but they were always on track as per the larger plan of the universe. Abhishek, who made his film debut 23 years ago with JP Dutta’s Refugee, also commented on constant comparisons with father megastar Amitabh Bachchan and answered if he finds them “harsh”.
The actor said when people come and tell him that the audience is finally realising his worth, he feels the the word “finally” in the sentence is incorrect. “They do it at the right time. 20 years ago maybe, I wasn’t worthy of that.”
Abhishek was also asked about his journey and if he feels people were harsh to him. The actor was quoted as saying that he looks at it in the way that he is being compared to someone who is considered the best actor in the world. He said that if he is being compared to Amitabh, it means he is doing something right, adding that he sees it as appreciation.
Abhishek’s film debut happened at a time when the nepotism debate didn’t exist in the manner it does today, where it is assumed that star kids have it fairly easy in the industry.
When asked if it worked against him as people constantly kept comparing him with his father Amitabh Bachchan, Abhishek said there’s “no right way to answer this”. The actor explained his point and said though he is not “accusing anyone”, it is the media which found “this one word which they can throw around”.
Abhishek said that at the end of the day, facts matter and not perception. He said that if one is good at their job, they’ll get the next job. He said that ot doesn’t matter who you are related to, as that can only help you get your first film. The actor said the audience is inquisitive and is intrigued when an actor or celebrity’s kid is set to make a debut.
He said the ‘sad part’ is that star kids also know this is why they’re being cast and not because they’re ‘wonderful actors who’ve trained themselves’. Abhishek said that finally the only thing an actor needs to concentrate on is how they can better themselves, and be the best version of themselves.
Abhishek was last seen in last year’s social comedy Dasvi, co-starring Nimrat Kaur, Yami Gautam. He will be next seen in Ghoomer, directed by R Balki.
