Deepak Tijori recalls how Aamir Khan and Shah Rukh Khan came together for a cameo in Ashutosh Gowariker’s Pehla Nasha

Pehla Nasha also starred Pooja Bhatt and Raveena Tandon in the lead roles. The film had cameos by Shah Rukh, Aamir and Saif Ali Khan. “We were all friends who got together. Pooja was close to me, Raveena was close to me. Then Ashu brought in Shah Rukh, Aamir for that one scene which is a unique moment of life. So that is how we started making that film for fun. We would play dumb charades on set and would reach two hours prior to just have fun ,” he said. Ashutosh later directed Baazi and Lagaan with Aamir Khan, and Swades with Shah Rukh Khan.

In an earlier chat with Zoom, Deepak shared that Amrita Singh, who was then married to Saif, wasn’t very supportive of him filming a cameo in Pehla Nasha. “There was a moment by which I was really surprised… Shah Rukh (Khan), Saif (Ali Khan) and Aamir (Aamir), who were coming. So Saif was getting ready at home, this is his version, when he was getting ready at home, Dingy (Amrita Singh), his then wife, asked him, ‘What are you doing? Where are you going?'” When Saif told Amrita about the film, she discouraged him. He said, “So, she was like, ‘Really? How can you do this? We never did all these things. Who does this? You go and support somebody on premiere shoot’.” Deepak said that this incident shocked him because back then, “people were going everywhere to support everybody” in the fraternity and that it’s not been happening for a while now.
