‘A-listers are threatened by me, I was better than Ranbir Kapoor in my debut,’ says Muzammil Ibrahim: ‘Industry hasn’t been fair’
Ranbir Kapoor and Muzammil Ibrahim made their film debuts in the same year with Saawariya and Dhokha, respectively.

Muzammil Ibrahim, who made his debut in the movies with the 2007 film Dhokha, recently said that he deserved the Best Debut award over Ranbir Kapoor. Ranbir also made his debut in the same year with Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Saawariya. Muzammil, who has been a part of the film industry for nearly two decades, shared that he has not yet received the recognition he deserves, adding that he believes A-listers feel threatened by him.
In a chat with Filmibeat Prime, Muzammil, who once dated Deepika Padukone, said, “I think the industry has not been fair because the way I acted in my debut, if a star kid did the same thing, he would have been somewhere else. I don’t remember Ranbir Kapoor acting that great in Saawariya. I know that I deserved the Best Debut award for my first film. I do feel that I have not gotten my due.” The actor added that while he is slowly starting to get the due he feels he deserved, but it is “not in the capacity that I feel I deserved because had I been a star kid, the limelight I would have gotten would have been crazy.”
Muzammil Ibrahim claimed that even without the advantages of being a star kid, he was hailed as the “next superstar” after he made his debut. “People had started saying that India has got its next superstar at that point of time. I am not saying it,” he claimed.
Muzammil added that the A-listers still perceive him as a threat as he said, “I feel even now, they know that I am deserving. They also know that I am a threat to the guys who are the A-listers and they watch out for their own assets a lot. They will have me removed from a parallel lead. They have done that in the past.”
Previously, in a chat with Siddharth Kannan, Muzammil had said that Ayan Mukerji had written a role for him in Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani, but he ultimately went ahead with Aditya Roy Kapur for the same role.
Muzammil Ibrahim was last seen in Special Ops Season 2.
