12th Fail box office collection day 4: Vikrant Massey film collects Rs 7.84 crore, Farhan Akhtar gives ‘big thumbs up’ to the team
12th Fail box office collection day 4: Directed by Vidhu Vinod Chopra, the film, based on IPS Manoj Kumar Sharma's life has emerged as a surprise success. The film collected Rs 1.20 crore on Monday.

After a positive start, Vikrant Massey’s 12th Fail saw a dip in numbers as Monday arrived. The film opened with Rs 1.11 crore and then earned over Rs 5 crore on its first weekend. On Monday, the Vidhu Vinod Chopra film raked in Rs 1.20 crore, reported industry tracker Sacnilk. This brings the four-day collection to Rs 7.84 crore.
As per the website, 12th Fail saw only 10.04 percent occupancy in the Hindi market, with night shows seeing a major chunk of audiences. The film also saw a better reception in metro cities rather than smaller towns. On the other hand, Kangana Ranaut’s Tejas failed to connect with the masses as it earned only Rs 4.25 crore in four days, with Monday bringing in Rs 50 lakh.
Actor-director Farhan Akhtar also took to social media to laud 12th Fail sharing how he was ‘blown away’ by the film. He also congratulated Vikrant Massey and asked his followers to watch the film. “Congratulations on a wonderful piece of work @vvchimself .. having known and briefly interacted with Manoj Kumar Sharma personally, I am blown away and inspired by his life story and your cinematic narration of it. A big thumbs up to @vikrantmassey and the rest of the cast and crew. Super stuff 🙌🏽♥️ GO WATCH THIS 👍🏽👍🏽.”

12th Fail is based on the best-selling novel of the same name by Anurag Pathak and draws from the struggles of millions of students who attempt the UPSC entrance exam. The film’s protagonist Manoj (Massey) flunks his 12th board exams but doesn’t lose hope. He restarts his academic journey and appears for the toughest competitive exam – UPSC.
The Indian Express film critic Shubhra Gupta gave the film a 3-star rating and wrote in her review, “Despite the background music, and the occasional mood spikes, ‘12th Fail’ stays, for the most part, a film that cleaves close to ground reality, with characters that makes you feel that they’ve wandered off the street, and come to hang out with us, dishing out life-lessons laced with dollops of inspiration.
“It’s not just the main cast, but the numbers of the young who gather in the hot-spots rife with coaching centres, such as North Delhi’s Mukerjee Nagar: all these multitudes, crowding into tiny rooms, far away from their homes, cramming day and night to get through the exams in the hope of becoming something more than who they are, is such an India story.”
12th Fail has an open window till Diwali, before Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif arrive with their biggie Tiger 3.
