UGC releases list of universities for online courses; apply by March 31

Students can check the detailed list of which university offers what online learning courses at the official UGC-DEB web portal -- deb.ugc.ac.in/Search/Course.

The University Grants Commission (UGC) had earlier invited online applications from the eligible Higher Educational Institutions (HEIs) as per Regulation 3(A) and Regulation 3(B)(b) of UGC (open and distance learning programmes and online programmes) regulations, 2020 and its amendments for recognition of programmes under Open and Distance Learning (ODL) mode.

On the basis of the online applications, UGC has now released a list of HEIs recognised to offer Open and Distance Learning (ODL) programmes for academic year 2023-24.

Students can check the detailed list of which university offers what online learning courses at the official UGC-DEB web portal — deb.ugc.ac.in/Search/Course. UGC has approved nearly 80 universities that can offer multiple online distance learning programmes.

The last date for admission into ODL and online programmes for the academic session February 2024 is March 31, 2024. Institutes have been given time till April 15 to upload student admission details on the UGC-DEB web portal.

“The Higher Educational Institution shall also adhere to the policy of Territorial Jurisdiction and learner Support Centers (LSC) as specilied in AnnexureIII and VIII of University Grants Commission (Open and Distance learning Programmes and Online Programmes) Regulations, 2O2O and its amendments,” UGC said in an official notice.

Meanwhile, the UGC has also issued precautions that students should take care of while applying to any institute for online distance learning programmes.

“Students must confirm the recognition status of HEI for offering ODL and Online education for the session opted for admission on UGC DEB website, check the details on the HEls’ website, take note of prohibited programmes and prohibition of franchising arrangement and ensure that all activities are being conducted within Territorial Jurisdiction for ODL Programmes,” UGC’s official notice read.
