Tamil Nadu varsity says DU hasn’t sent Rs 500 needed to procure Baisoya certificate

Head of the Department of Buddhist Studies KTS Sarao had earlier said he had written three letters and sent repeated reminders to TU.

After denying last week that they had received any communication from Delhi University (DU), officials at the Tamil Nadu’s Thiruvalluvar University (TU) Monday confirmed that they had received a letter from DU regarding the alleged ‘fake marksheet’ of DU Students’ Union president, ABVP’s Ankiv Baisoya.

However, they said DU had not paid the challan required for document verification, without which they would not be able to process the request. TU has now written to DU authorities in this regard. The confirmation of the certificate is likely to get further delayed as a result of this.

Head of the Department of Buddhist Studies KTS Sarao had earlier said he had written three letters and sent repeated reminders to TU. “I have already attached Baisoya’s marksheets for all six semesters of BA that he had submitted to us, and sent it to Thiruvalluvar University, asking them to confirm whether it is fake or real. I’m yet to receive any response. Since the Registrar of the university does not have his email or phone number mentioned on the website, I’m forced to send it by registered post, which makes matters slower,” he had earlier told The Indian Express. The TU website, however, carries the number and email of the Registrar.

When contacted on Monday, TU Controller of Examinations B Senthilkumar said, “We have received the letter from DU this week. However, they have not sent the challan. We can’t process the application without that. We have now written back to DU saying they should pay the fee.”

The TU website also mentions detailed instructions that have to be followed in order to procure a genuineness certificate. The fee for government institutions is Rs 500 per certificate, whereas for non-government institutions, it is Rs 1,250 per certificate.

Sarao, as well as DU Registrar and Vice-Chancellor did not respond to queries by The Indian Express asking why the challan was not paid. “It is ridiculous on DU’s part. They have delayed the probe by 40 days. They’re delaying it further to make sure Baisoya is shielded. We have no option left; we will deal with the matter in High Court,” said NSUI national president Akshay Lakra. The organisation had approached the Delhi HC earlier in the month.
