The University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, has opened applications for its Master of Science (MSc) in Machine Learning and Deep Learning programme for the January 2026 intake. The programme aims to prepare students with the technical and applied expertise required to design, develop, and optimise advanced artificial intelligence (AI) systems used across diverse industries.
According to an official statement, the MSc programme has been designed to provide a comprehensive understanding of machine learning principles and deep neural network architectures. Students will explore the design and implementation of complex AI systems used in industry and research, with emphasis on algorithmic design, architectural development, and software technologies that underpin modern intelligent systems.
The curriculum focuses on developing practical skills through industry-supported research projects, enabling students to work on real-world engineering challenges. The course also integrates a strong research component, allowing participants to engage with the latest developments in autonomous systems, data analytics, and intelligent control.
The course will be jointly delivered by the Departments of Electronic and Electrical Engineering (EEE) and Computer and Information Sciences (CIS), offering an interdisciplinary learning environment. Students will be taught by faculty engaged in research and industrial collaborations in fields including machine learning, data analytics, software engineering, and intelligent systems.
The academic framework combines theoretical instruction with hands-on training, ensuring students acquire both conceptual clarity and practical experience. Participants will also gain exposure to programming languages and engineering tools widely used in the AI and data science sectors.
Applicants should hold a first-class or second-class honours degree (or international equivalent) in electronic or electrical engineering or computer science. Candidates from other engineering or science-related backgrounds with strong academic credentials may also be considered.
For English language proficiency, applicants must have an IELTS (Academic) score of 6.5 overall, with no individual band score below 5.5.
The tuition fee for international students is £31,100. Self-funded, international (non-EU) students admitted for the January 2026 full-time intake will be eligible for an automatic scholarship of £5,000, which will be deducted from the tuition fee.
Graduates of the MSc in Machine Learning and Deep Learning will be equipped to pursue careers in technology companies, research institutions, or entrepreneurial ventures focused on AI-driven solutions. The programme aims to prepare students for roles that demand expertise in AI model design, data-driven decision systems, and intelligent automation.
