The National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2025 has released its list of top Skill Universities in India. For this year, Symbiosis Skills and Professional University, Pune, has retained the first position. It is followed by Symbiosis University of Applied Sciences, Indore, at second place, while Shri Vishwakarma Skill University, Palwal, ranks third.
Skill universities were included as a separate ranking category under NIRF to acknowledge their distinct role in bridging the gap between traditional academics and industry-driven expertise. Since their introduction, the rankings have served as a way to highlight institutions that contribute directly to employability and practical knowledge, a focus that aligns closely with India’s national skilling goals.

When compared with last year’s results, Symbiosis Skills and Professional University continues to dominate the list at rank 1. Shri Vishwakarma Skill University, which was second in the previous year’s rankings, has moved down to third place in 2025.

Meanwhile, Bhartiya Skill Development University, Rajasthan, which had secured the third rank last year, does not appear in this year’s list. A new entrant, Symbiosis University of Applied Sciences, Indore, has taken its place at rank 2.
This year, in the overall category of NIRF Rankings 2025, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras has once again secured the first position, continuing its streak as the top-ranked institution for the seventh consecutive year. It is followed by the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bengaluru in second place, IIT Delhi in third, IIT Bombay in fourth, and IIT Kanpur in fifth.
NIRF 2025 Rankings: What’s new, and changes this year
This year’s NIRF rankings also introduced new evaluation measures. Institutions were penalised for excessive self-citations in research publications, ensuring greater transparency in citation metrics. In addition, new data parameters were included to assess innovation, patent output, and outreach, refining the ranking system to better reflect the overall academic and societal contributions of universities.
