NEET UG Answer Key 2024 Updates: Final answer key, result likely after second week of June

The payment of the processing fee may be made through, Debit card/Credit Card/Net Banking by May 31 (upto 11:50 pm). No challenge will be entertained without receipt of the processing fee. The Challenges will not be accepted through any other mode. 

Students who will raise objections will not be informed whether their challenge is accepted or rejected. They can see in the final answer key whether the questions is dropped or not 

If the challenge of any candidate is found correct, the answer key will be revised and applied in the response of all the candidates accordingly. 

If candidates attempted more than 10 questions, only the first 10 attempted questions will be considered for evaluation.

– Correct Answer: Four marks (+4)

– Incorrect Answer: Minus one mark (-1)

– Unanswered/Marked for Review will be given no mark (0)

Last year, the NEET UG cut-off percentile for the general category was 50 for MBBS and BDS candidates and 40 for OBC, SC and ST candidates.  The NTA will determine the percentile of NEET UG based on the highest marks scored in the all-India common merit list for NEET UG 2024.

The NEET UG cut-off in 2023 for the general category increased from 715-117 in 2022 to 720-137 in 2023. The same pattern was observed for other categories as well. while the cut-off for SC, ST, and OBC candidates increased to 136-107 in 2023 from 116-93 in 2022.

The NTA has also invited candidates to submit objections up to May 31 on payment of ?200 per question. 

Today is the last date to raise objections to the NEET answer key 2024. Students can challenge the answer keys from the official website exams.nta.ac.in/NEET/

As per the data shared by NTA, a total of 9,96,393 male candidates and 13,31,321 female candidates, and 17 transgender candidates appeared for the exam. While the overall attendance has been recorded at 96.94 per cent, the attendance of male candidates was 96.92 per cent, 96.96 per cent for female candidates, and 94.44 per cent for transgender candidates.

Candidates can also submit representation against the OMR grading by paying a non-refundable processing fee of Rs 200 per question challenged.

An anti-ragging committee under the National Medical Commission has setup a 15-member National Task Force to study cases of depression and suicides among medical students. The task force is chaired by Dr B M Suresh, professor of psychiatry at the National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro-Sciences (NIMHANS).

The National Board of Examinations for Medical Sciences (NBEMS) has announced a change in the exam format of National Eligibility Entrance Test, Postgraduate (NEET PG) 2024. NBEMS has decided to introduce mandatory time-bound sections. 

As per the official announcement, the change will be brought in all its MCQ-based examinations such as NEET PG, NEET MDS, NEET SS, FMGE, DNB PDCET, GPAT, DPEE, FDST and FET which are conducted on a computer-based platform.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi commented on the issue, saying in a post on X: “News of NEET paper leak amounts to betrayal of the dreams of over 23 lakh candidates and their families. The youth have now realised the worthlessness of the BJP government of 10 years, and know that there is a difference between running a government and making verbal promises…”

Police in Patna had arrested 13 people in connection with allegations of a paper leak in the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) conducted on May 5.

While those arrested, including four who took the national-level medical entrance exams, were booked under IPC sections dealing with breach of trust and conspiracy, police said the paper leak was not yet confirmed and that their investigation was underway.

Apart from the four who took the exam, the arrested were three question paper setters, two associates of theirs, the fathers of two examinees, the mother of an examinee, and a driver.

Fourteen ‘signed cheques’ recovered from the Vadodara office of an immigration agency have set the Panchmahal district police on the trail of aspirants who had approached the three arrested for alleged ‘malpractice’ during NEET exam in Godhra. The special team probing the case ranted 10 days remand to the two accused — Tushar Bhatt and Arif Vohra — who were arrested from Rajasthan.

Meanwhile, the Panchmahal police informed the local court that Bhatt — a geography teacher at Jai Jalaram School in Parvadi village of Godhra taluka and who was the Superintendent of the NEET exam centre on May 5 — is the prime accused in the case.

Tamil Nadu reported the fourth highest attendance with 1.53 lakh candidates, followed by Karnataka with 1.50 lakh students. Kerala followed at sixth position with 1.38 lakh candidates. Next is Bihar with 1.36 lakh. About 1.17 lakh students in West Bengal, Gujarat and Delhi had the ninth and 10th highest number of candidates with 86000 and 66000 candidates, respectively.

Rajasthan has also been in a state of discussion in the NEET UG exam this time. On May 5, in an isolated incident at Girls Higher Secondary Adarsh Vidya Mandir, Mantown, Sawai Madhopur of Rajasthan Hindi-medium students were given English medium question paper. Due to this, students forcefully walked out of the exam hall with the English-medium question paper, which was later circulated on social media platforms, NTA claimed.

Another report of an alleged paper leak came from Bihar where the Economic Offences Unit (EOU) of the Bihar Police said it seized “admit cards, post-dated cheques, and certificates” from “members of the organised gang arrested” in case of alleged question paper leak of NEET UG 2024. In Bihar, this time a total of 1,36,188 candidates (72661 male and 63527 female) appeared for the exam.

State-wise performance, Uttar Pradesh recorded the most attendance with 1,64,779 female candidates, 1 transgender student and 1,67,690 male candidates attending the exam. This was followed by Maharashtra where 1,56,795 female and 1,18,243 male and 2 transgender students appeared for NEET UG.

As per the data provided by the NTA, Rajasthan is at the third position with over 1 lakh male candidates, and more than 88,000 female candidates, totalling to 1.93 lakh. Interestingly, Rajasthan is the only state in the top 5 with no transgender candidate.

Two MBBS students were among four persons arrested by a special unit of the police (New Delhi district) for allegedly operating a gang that solved NEET exam papers this year, said officers. According to police, the two MBBS students are from government-run medical colleges; they operated the racket along with two accomplices.

The matter came to light when two students were allegedly found with mismatched biometric data during the NEET exam at Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan Mehta Vidyalaya in Kasturba Gandhi Marg on May 5.

The National Testing Agency has uploaded the Provisional Answer Keys, Scanned Images of OMR Answer Sheet and Recorded Responses for NEET (UG) – 2024 on the website https://exams.nta.ac.in/NEET for candidates to challenge as per following details:

The NEET UG provisional answer key can be challenged by students within a stipulated deadline. After consultations with an expert committee, the NTA will release the final answer key, based on which the NEET UG result will be prepared and declared.

Revised application fees: A revision has been made to the application fee structure. The general category registration cost has been raised to Rs 1,700. Previously, candidates who weren’t from India had to pay Rs 9,500. The new cost is Rs 1,600 for applicants in the EWS/OBC-NCL categories and Rs 1,000 for those in the SC/ST/PwD categories.

Revision of tie-breaking policy: The rule about tying has been updated. When deciding who gets the highest grade among candidates, the age and NEET UG application number are no longer taken into account. Priority is awarded according to scores got in biology, chemistry, and physics, in that order. If necessary, the ratio of right to wrong answers is then considered both between disciplines and within specific courses.

Reduction and addition of topics to the syllabus: The National Medical Commission (NMC) and the NTA have updated the NEET syllabus, eliminating some subjects and including others that are essential to the test.

Maintaining that there was no paper leak, a senior NTA official told The Indian Express, “In an isolated incident at Girls Higher Secondary Adarsh Vidya Mandir, Mantown, Sawai Madhopur (Rajasthan), Hindi-medium students were given English medium question paper by mistake and by the time the invigilator was correcting the mistake, students forcefully walked out of the exam hall with the question paper… Due to this, the question paper was circulated on the internet around 4 pm, but by that time the exam had already started at all other centres across the country. So, there has not been any ‘leak’ of the NEET UG question paper.

Biology was the easy to moderate, and most of the questions were asked from the NCERT curriculum only, Viijay said.

Biology had the highest weightage and consisted mostly of questions directly from or based on NCERT textbooks. The questions spanned both Botany and Zoology, with an emphasis on Human Physiology, Genetics, and Plant Physiology. Unlike previous years, this year’s question papers featured 6 figure-based and three direction-based questions, along with 30 ‘match the following’ and 17 statement-based questions. As 30% of the questions were of the ‘match the following’ type, some students found the paper a bit lengthy, the CEO of MTG Learning Media said.

According to MTG Learning Media, the Chemistry section was a balanced mix of physical, organic, and inorganic chemistry. The questions ranged from straightforward factual questions based on direct concepts from the NCERT textbooks to more application-based questions. The highest weightage was given to ‘Organic Chemistry: Some Basic Principles and Techniques. Out of 50 questions, 9 were numerical-based, 7 involved matching the following, and 5 were statement-based.

The chemistry paper was easier than last year’s NEET exam. Physical chemistry was the toughest, followed by organic and inorganic chemistry, and questions from thermodynamics, kinetics, and periodic table were included in the exam, Motion Education said.

Surely, there are unfortunate incidents but those are not always due to the pressure of studies. We interact with students on a personal level and have seen that sometimes the reasons behind their stress are personal such as family problems, monetary issues, love relationships, friendship, and so on. We should also remember that students come here at an age in which they are still developing and learning to be at peace with their body, mind, and emotions. That can also add to their problems. Sadly, these days, every case is seen with the same lens and people just assume that these unfortunate incidents happen just because of academic pressure" said DM Goswami. 

Kota is a beautiful city, but also a very misrepresented one. Lakhs of students come here every year to prepare for competitive exams and fulfill their dreams said Goswami. 

Every week, the collector sits and have dinner with one group of students who live in hostels and PGs, and it is one of the best times of the week for him. This initiative is taken to assure them that the whole administration is always there to support them.

Physics
The Physics section continued to be the toughest part of the NEET exam for many candidates, an expert said. This year, it consisted mainly of numerical problems that required a strong understanding of concepts and calculation skills. Questions covered a broad range of topics, with a notable emphasis on Mechanics, Electromagnetism, Optics and Modern Physics. The exam included direct MCQs, match the column, assertion and reasoning, and statement-based questions. Notably, 30% of the questions were numerical based.

However, physics section, according to another expert, was easy to moderate but a bit lengthy. There were more questions from NCERT, especially Class 11. Apart from this, there were questions about thermodynamics and optics.

The NEET UG 2024 was perceived by many candidates as moderately challenging. The physics section seemed to be the toughest for many featuring calculation-based questions. Biology was largely based on the NCERT syllabus, but included a few tricky questions that tested deeper understanding rather than rote memorisation. Chemistry was a mix of conceptual and practical questions that required a clear understanding of the fundamentals. All questions were solely from the reduced syllabus only. 

According to Nitin Viijay, Founder and CEO of Motion Education, the overall difficulty level of the exam was easy to moderate. While physics and Chemistry were a bit lengthy and easy to moderate compared to last year’s NEET exam, Biology was also moderate, he said.
