The National Testing Agency (NTA) holds the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test Undergraduate (NEET UG), among India’s toughest medical entrance exams. Lakhs of students study every year for the same, and many ask about whether NTA repeats questions from previous year papers or not.
NTA does not repeat word-to-word; rather, it uses similar patterns frequently. They often follow common topics, concepts, or types of questions from earlier years. For instance, if some particular formula or concept was very relevant in an old paper, then again its question would most probably turn up.
Syllabus is limited
NEET UG questions are derived from the NCERT syllabus for Classes 11 and 12. The scope for completely new questions, since the syllabus is limited, is also limited.
Focus on core areas
NEET tests the knowledge of students about the fundamental topics. This means that certain core areas, such as genetics, mechanics, and chemical bonding, are always focused.
– There will mostly be questions of the following types: inheritance patterns, DNA structure, plant physiology in biology.
– Periodic trends questions, chemical reaction types or organic chemistry mechanisms are often the ones that are repeated in style in chemistry
– Newton’s laws, motion, and thermodynamics seem to be on almost any physics paper
Practice previous year question papers
Studying past NEET question papers makes you aware of what kind of questions are likely to occur. It helps in both efficiency and accuracy.
High weightage topics should be focused on because they occur most of the time. Practice conceptual understanding, not just memorising the answers, in order to be able to give similar types of answers.
