NEET UG Registrations 2025 Updates: Exam on May 4; know changes in UG medical test

As per the NEE UG 2025 application form rule, candidates who have completed 17 years of age at the time of admission or will complete that age on or before December 31 of the year of their admission to the first year of the UG medical course will be eligible to register for NEET UG. Candidates irrespective of their categories must be born on or after December 31, 2008.

There is no upper age limit to register for NEET UG.

Candidates are advised to take 6-8 Passport size coloured photographs with white background. The photographs are to be used for uploading on online application form, for examination, and also for counselling and admission processes. This is to ensure that the same photograph is used for all documents and all purposes related to NEET UG 2025, a statement on the NTA NEET UG information website said.

A total of 1,08,000 seats are available for MBSS course. Approximately 56,000 of them are in government hospitals and about 52,000 in private colleges.

The NEET UG 2025 scores and merit list will also apply for admissions to BDS and BVSC and AH courses in addition to admission to UG courses in each of the disciplines – BAMS, BUMS and BSMS courses of the Indian System of Medicine in all medical institutions. Admission to the BHMS course under the National Commission for Homeopathy will also be done on the basis of NEET UG scores.

MNS (Military Nursing Service) aspirants seeking admission to BSc Nursing courses being conducted at Armed Forces Medical Service Hospitals for the year 2025 are required to qualify for NEET UG. The NEET UG score will be used for shortlisting for selection to the four-year BSc Nursing course.

As a first, NTA will resolve ties through a random process with the guidance of an independent expert committee if all the other provisions are exhausted.

In case of two or more candidates obtain equal marks/percentile scores in the NEET UG 2025, the inter-se-merit shall be determined as follows:

a. Candidate obtaining higher marks/percentile score in Biology (Botany & Zoology) in the test, followed by,

b. Candidate obtaining higher marks/percentile score in Chemistry in the test, followed by,

c. Candidate obtaining higher marks/percentile score in Physics in the test, followed by,

d. Candidate with less proportion of the number of attempted incorrect answers and correct answers in all the subjects in the test,

e. Candidate with less proportion of a number of attempted incorrect answers and correct answers in Biology (Botany & Zoology) in the test, followed by

f. Candidate with less proportion of a number of attempted incorrect answers and correct answers in Chemistry in the test, followed by

g. Candidate with less proportion of a number of attempted incorrect answers and correct answers in Physics in the test, followed by

h. In case, a-g criteria are exhausted and tie still persists, it will be resolved through a random process with the guidance of an independent expert committee.

The centre had released guidelines to regulate misleading advertisements by coaching institutes, prohibiting false claims like 100 per cent selection or 100 per cent job security.

The final guidelines, drafted by the Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA), come in the wake of several complaints on the National Consumer Helpline. The CCPA has issued 54 notices and imposed penalties of about Rs 54.60 lakh till date.

“We have seen coaching centres deliberately concealing information from prospective students. Therefore, we have come out with the guidelines to provide guidance to people involved in the coaching industry,” Consumer Affairs Secretary Nidhi Khare told reporters. The government is not against the coaching centres but the quality of advertisements should not undermine the consumer rights, she said.

Government has added almost 1.1 lakh UG and PG medical education seats in ten years, an increase of 130 per cent. In the next year, 10,000 additional seats will be added in medical colleges and hospitals, towards the goal of adding 75,000 seats in the next 5 years.

The NEET UG syllabus is vast; therefore, many students are tempted to memorise the answers and facts and feel it will save them time. But, relying totally on memorisation can be a little risky. In the NEET UG, the concept clarity in physics, chemistry and biology is more important than rote learning for success.

NTA has not announced any NEET UG 2025 application date. However, going by past year trends, it is expected to be out soon.

The eighth edition of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s annual event ‘Pariksha Pe Charcha’ (PPC) is set to be held on February 10. Renowned sports and Bollywood personalities like actor Deepika Padukone, Vikrant Massey, Bhumi Pednekar, six-time world champion boxer MC Mary Kom along with spiritual leader Sadhguru will attend the event.

As per the Centre, the event will feature eight episodes where these experts will talk to students and be part of their journey from becoming exam “worriers” to “warriors”.

This year, sources said, authorities anticipate anywhere between 28 lakh to 30 lakh aspirants will take the exam. Switching from pen-and-paper mode to a computer-based test so quickly for an examination of NEET’s scale would prove to be a logistical nightmare for officials.

To be qualified for NEET UG, one has to score the minimum qualifying percentile:

– General Category: 50th percentile

– SC/ST/OBC: 40th percentile

– PwD: 45th percentile

The same percentiles translate to different scores every year depending on the highest marks obtained by students.

NEET UG 2025 paper will now have 180 compulsory questions — 45 questions each in physics and chemistry and 90 in biology. Candidates will have to attempt the paper in 180 minutes.

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has not yet announced the NEET UG 2025 application form date. As soon as it is announced, the neet.nta.nic.in website will host the application form and other details on registration.
