The road to IIT is a journey like no other – one filled with challenges, sacrifices, and moments of triumph. My story began at the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya in my hometown Jamedaruputtuga, in the Srikakulam district of Andhra Pradesh, where I completed my education up to Class 10. With dreams of cracking JEE and securing a future at one of India’s premier institutes, I appeared for the Dakshana entrance test and was selected for their coaching program in Hyderabad. This became the stepping stone for my JEE preparation during Classes 11 and 12.
However, the arrival of the Covid-19 pandemic turned everything upside down. What was once an intense, structured study routine transitioned to an online format, bringing new challenges. Struggling to adjust to online learning, I faced long hours of self-study and frequent bouts of self-doubt and frustration. Yet, in the midst of all this, my parents remained my constant source of strength.

After months of dedication and relentless effort, I finally achieved my dream – I secured a seat in the mathematics and computing department at IIT (BHU) Varanasi in 2023. That moment wasn’t just my success; it was the culmination of my family’s dreams and hard work.
Life begins at IIT BHU
Setting foot on the 1,300-acre campus of IIT BHU was nothing short of a dream come true. The sprawling greenery, historical architecture, and lively atmosphere made me realise I was now part of something extraordinary. The institute’s mentorship program was incredibly helpful in easing the transition, as senior mentors guided us through the workings of campus life and academics.
I quickly discovered that IIT BHU was much more than academics. The institute boasts a wide variety of clubs and councils catering to interests ranging from robotics and business to dance, music, photography, and filmmaking. For someone with a passion for learning beyond the classroom, this environment was ideal.
Joining a science and technology club became a turning point for me. It allowed me to apply my theoretical knowledge to real-world problems, participate in hackathons, and refine my presentation and communication skills. These experiences were as enriching as my coursework, preparing me for both personal and professional growth.

Daily regimen
Life at IIT BHU is dynamic and demanding. Classes typically begin at 8:30 am and run till 5:30 pm, often including lab sessions in between. While weekdays are packed with academic rigor, weekends offer a welcome break. I spend my free time playing volleyball, working on club projects, or honing my coding skills, which align closely with my career aspirations.
One of the institute’s standout features is its strong alumni network, facilitated by the Student Alumni Interaction Cell (SAIC). Through this platform, I have had the privilege of connecting with industry leaders, attending guest lectures by CEOs and other achievers, and gaining invaluable guidance on navigating my career.
Beyond the classroom: Fests and fun
IIT BHU is not just about books and labs – it’s also about vibrant events and festivals. Our cultural fest, Kashiyatra, brings together colleges from across the country in a celebration of talent and creativity. Spardha, one of Asia’s largest sports fests, fills the campus with energy and enthusiasm, offering a blend of competition and camaraderie.
As an executive member of Spardha, I gained hands-on experience in teamwork, time management, and event coordination. These events not only strengthened my soft skills but also allowed me to explore creative avenues like editing and designing, skills I never imagined I’d acquire.
