The Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) has started the application process for admission to PhD programmes for the 2024-25 academic year. The admissions to the PhD programmes at JNU will made through NET (UGC-CSIR), JRF or GATE. Candidates can apply for the PhD programmes at jnu.ac.in. The last date to register for the PhD programmes at JNU is December 2.
While inviting applications, JNU in a statement said that candidates will he required to go through the e-prospectus for PhD programmes available on the university website to satisfy themselves in terms of eligibility criteria, availability of seats and other details before submitting the application.
Candidates will have to apply separately for admission through NET (UGC-CSIR), JRF or GATE (only for school of engineering).
A proposal to potentially shift back to in-house PhD entrance exams at JNU has hit a roadblock as university officials claim that no feedback has been received from school deans.
This year, JNU announced a change in its selection process for admission to its PhD programmes. From the current academic year, JNU said it accepts NET scores instead of conducting its own entrance test, in line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. However the abrupt cancellation of the June 2024 NET has prompted a reevaluation of this approach. On July 3, JNU V-C Santishree D Pandit initiated discussions about reviving the university’s own entrance exam system.
