The Class of 1980 Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IITK) announced a donation of Rs 4.2 crore. The donation was announced during their 45th-year reunion held between March 2 and 4. As many as 63 alumni were present during the reunion.
The collective contribution from the alumni will support key initiatives at IIT Kanpur, including contributions towards Hall 3 in celebration of their Hall Day, facility improvements across the campus, a grant towards the girls’ hostel, and the creation of a Corpus Fund, an IIT Kanpur statement said.
It further added that the the donation will also support the Prof. Pravir Dutt Excellence Award, the Prof. K.S. Gandhi and Prof. S.K. Gupta Research Excellence Award, Humanities-Technology Bridge: A Tribute to Prof. Mahajan and
Prof. Dhanagare, and the Prof. S.K. Gupta and Prof. K.S. Gandhi Undergraduate Excellence Award.
Reflecting on the three-day reunion, Prof. Manindra Agrawal, Director of IIT Kanpur said, “In addition to technical education, IIT Kanpur is committed to shaping responsible citizens who serve as catalysts for change and development. The alumni from the Class of 1980 are thriving in their respective fields while remaining deeply connected to their roots. We are grateful for their generous contribution to the institute, which will provide significant momentum to various academic initiatives on campus.”
The 45-Year Reunion of the Class of 1980 was a gathering marked by nostalgia, camaraderie, and reflection, further strengthening the legacy of the batch, the Institute said adding that it extends its sincere appreciation to the Class of 1980 for their invaluable contributions and looks forward to their continued engagement in advancing education and innovation at the institute.
