CUET UG 2023: Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) is one of the first central universities to adopt the Central University Entrance Test (CUET) for undergraduate admissions. The university received 67,456 applications last year through the newly introduced entrance test. JNU offers admissions in UG and COP programmes (BA -MA integrated programme in Foreign languages, BS-MSc integrated programme in Ayurveda biology and certificate of Proficiency programmes) for the academic session 2023-24 through Common Universities Entrance Test CUET UG -2023 in School of Language, Literature and Cultural Studies and in School of Sanskrit and Indic Studies. Courses offered JNU offers the following undergraduate courses for which admissions are carried out through CUET - BA (Hons) Persian - BA (Hons) Pashto - BA (Hons) Korean - BA (Hons) Japanese - BA (Hons) Mongolian - BA (Hons) Chinese - BA (Hons) French - BA (Hons) German - BA (Hons) Russian - BA (Hons) Spanish - BSc-MSc Integrated program in Ayurveda Biology (5 years) - BSc (Ayurveda Biology) Hostel The university has seven hostels for boys, four hostels for girls, four co-ed hostels, and one hostel reserved for married students and working women. The total capacity of the hostels is 5500 students. The outstation candidates admitted to the programme of study of the varsity will be considered for hostel accommodation as per the rules of the University subject to availability of hostel accommodation. Grant of admission in the University would not ensure automatic allotment of hostel accommodation and that the same will be offered subject to its availability. Linguistic Cell JNU’s Linguistic Empowerment Cell (LEC) provides capacity-building programs for students who need linguistic skills for their academic pursuits in JNU. LEC runs foundation courses in English for students who may not have had English as a medium of instruction prior to coming to JNU and who may find it difficult to grasp what is offered in the regular programs in their respective centres and schools. LEC also conducts courses for students who wish to learn academic writing skills. Learners can opt for the 8 to 10 am slot or the 4 to 6 pm slot depending on the timing of their regular programs. History JNU was established in 1969 and named after Jawaharlal Nehru, India's first Prime Minister. The Indian School of International Studies was merged with the JNU in June 1970. Following the merger, the prefix "Indian" was dropped from the name of the School and it became the School of International Studies of the Jawaharlal Nehru University. The Jawaharlal Nehru University's academic departments are divided into 20 Schools and Centres.
