CUET UG 2023: Overlapping syllabus for Chemistry in CUET and JEE

Students who choose Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as their subjects in CUET section 2 will have an added advantage because of the overlap in topics between the JEE Main examination and CUET. Therefore, students preparing for JEE can directly benefit from the preparation for CUET: Chemistry as well but candidates must also know about the differences in both these competitive examinations.

Key differences in the Chemistry section in both JEE and CUET-

1)    Level of Difficulty- JEE Main is considered to be a highly competitive exam with a higher level of complexity, while CUET is comparatively easier and focuses on testing the fundamental concepts of the students. The questions in JEE Main are of an advanced level, requiring a deep understanding of the concepts, while CUET questions are more straightforward and basic in nature.

2)    Types of questions- In JEE Main, the Chemistry section typically includes multiple-choice questions, numerical value-based questions, and assertion-reason type questions. The questions require a deep understanding of concepts and problem-solving skills in Chemistry. On the other hand, the Chemistry section in CUET usually consists of straightforward multiple-choice questions that test the fundamental concepts of Chemistry.

3)    Difference in Topics- The Chemistry syllabus in JEE Main is more extensive and covers topics in greater depth. In contrast, the Chemistry syllabus in CUET is comparatively narrower and includes only essential topics in Physical Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, and Organic Chemistry. Overall, JEE Main covers a wider range of topics and requires a more comprehensive understanding of the subject, while CUET focuses more on the fundamental concepts in Chemistry.

Tips to remember while preparing for CUET Chemistry-

1)   Remember to focus on the different topics- It is important for a candidate to remember that CUET consists of only the class 12 syllabus while JEE consists of both the class 11 and 12 syllabi.

2)    Practise solving Numericals on a daily basis- Chemistry involves a lot of numerical problems on different topics. Practice solving different types of these questions to enhance your problem-solving skills.

3)    Make notes regarding the important formulas- Notes help in revision at the last moment as well as on a daily basis. Making notes of important formulas will help embed them in your brain as they are the key to solving tough numerical questions.

4)    Take Mock Tests: Taking mock tests regularly will help you assess your preparation level. You can identify your strengths and weaknesses and work on them accordingly. It will also help you become familiar with the exam pattern.

As only two months remain for CUET UG 2023 Session 2, it is high time for candidates to start focusing on revising their syllabus and seeking help in case of any doubts or problems. Strategic planning, dedication, and hard work.
