After attack on judge’s family: Amid crisis, personal security officers get lessons on stress

Speaking at the inaugural session of the two-day workshop, Commissioner of Police KK Rao said: “It is critical to practice restraint and make yourself capable of taking the right decisions even in the most serious situations.”

A week ago, a judge’s wife and son were shot by his personal security officer.

Over a week after the wife and son of an additional district and sessions judge were shot by his personal security officer, Gurgaon Police Monday kicked off a “stress management and motivation” workshop for all PSOs in the district.

Speaking at the inaugural session of the two-day workshop, Commissioner of Police KK Rao said: “It is critical to practice restraint and make yourself capable of taking the right decisions even in the most serious situations.”

Speaking to the media, he added: “The workshop will include lectures on psychology and will see the involvement of doctors and motivational speakers. The discussions and interactions will be analysed.”

At one such session Monday afternoon, Dr Garima Yadav, psychologist and assistant professor at Dronacharya Government college, dealt with ‘motivation at work and home’, speaking to the PSOs about sources of stress and different ways of managing work-life balance.

The incident that led to the workshop occurred on October 13, when Ritu (37) and Dhruv (18) were shot by Mahipal, the PSO of judge Krishan Kant Sharma. Mahipal had been posted with him for the last one-and-half-years. The violence took place at a busy market in Sector 47, in broad daylight.

While Ritu succumbed to her injuries, Dhruv is still admitted at Medanta — The Medicity, with doctors saying on Monday evening that he is still “critical” and that there has been “no improvement” in his condition.

In the aftermath of the incident, police revealed that the violence took place after Dhruv and Ritu rebuked Mahipal for being untraceable when they returned to their car after shopping.

Mahipal also had a fight with his wife that morning, said police, adding that he was already on the edge because of this.

Mahipal has since been produced in court and remanded in judicial custody. He is currently lodged at Bhondsi jail.
