After the Model Code of Conduct came into effect last month, the Rural Development ministry is using memes based on Bollywood actors and movies for publicity of its schemes on social media. The ministry on Tuesday posted a meme based on Shah Rukh Khan’s signature pose from his 2003 movie Kal Ho Naa Ho for promotion of its flagship skill development scheme — Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Grameen Kaushalya Yojana (DDU-GKY). Last week, the ministry had used a meme based on Khan’s 2004 superhit Main Hoon Na.

With the Lok Sabha election campaign gathering steam, Delhi on Tuesday missed its share of Gudi Padwa events, which politicians from Maharashtra would host. Gudi Padwa signals the arrival of the spring season and also marks the start of the Maharashtrian New Year. In the past, senior BJP leaders, including Vinay Sahasrabuddhe and Sunil Deodhar, have hosted gatherings around the festival but both were in Maharashtra on Tuesday. An event held in the national capital’s New Maharashtra Sadan was given a miss by politicians. Lok Sabha MP from Nashik Hemant Godse tweeted that he had to skip the event due to the Model Code of Conduct.
