During the hearing on the presidential reference last week, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta recalled how H V Kamath from coastal Karnataka frequently opposed B R Ambedkar in the Constituent Assembly. A day later, when Chief Justice of India B R Gavai sought to humour the court to lighten the mood, Mehta said humour is always good as the subject is also boring at times. Senior Advocate Kapil Sibal, who was on the other side, however, was quick to disagree that the ‘subject is boring’. Mehta clarified that his comment was not on the subject matter of the reference but that generally law is not an interesting subject for many. Sibal, however, was in no mood to give in and said: “No, it’s the most interesting subject”. “My learned friend is today Mr Kamath. He opposes everything I say,” quick came Mehta’s repartee. Out Of Site Till August 15 this year, several pictures of former Delhi Police Commissioner Sanjay Arora’s wife, along with the spouses of other police officers, were there in the photogallery of the official website of Police Families Welfare Society (PFWS). The photographs were from the various events organised by the PFWS during Arora’s tenure (July 31, 2022 to July 31, 2024). However, all pictures of the last three years have now been pulled down on directions from the Delhi Police headquarters, it is learnt. Incidentally, the pictures from similar events attended by the wife of Arora’s predecessor Rakesh Asthana are intact and photographs of this I-Day event have also been uploaded. The PFWS is a non-profit organisation that works under the aegis of the welfare unit of Delhi Police and the Commissioner’s wife is its de facto chairperson.
