Culture Threads

SPEAKING AT the inauguration of an exhibition tracing places related to Buddha and Buddhism at the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts on Tuesday, senior RSS functionary Suresh Soni remarked that empires come and go, but the influence of culture is long lasting. In this context, he even quoted a Chinese diplomat as saying that for 2,000 years, India ruled China without sending a single soldier. “That rule was of religion, of culture. That’s why today there is a need to connect cultural threads all over the world,” he said. The ‘Map model exhibition on Buddha’ depicts the cultural linkages of India with other countries through Buddha and his teachings.
