(Express photo)The Cyber crime unit of Delhi police has registered an FIR against a social media handler for impersonating Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud and demanding money. The CJI has learned to take note of cyber impersonation after a post shared by a lawyer last week on X went viral. In the post, a person posing as the CJI requested a digital transfer of Rs 500 for taking a cab. While the message seemed fake, the scammer also added that the message was sent from an iPad, a nod to the CJI’s insistence that lawyers in his courtroom use the gadget instead of paper books. The post generated many laughs amongst those in legal circles.
AT A time when many of its top leaders are fighting fierce legal battles to clear their names, the Karnataka Congress received a boost on Tuesday when the Supreme Court quashed an abetment to suicide case against state minister K J George. The senior Congress leader was accused number one, along with two senior police officers, in a case related to the death of former Deputy SP M K Ganapathi in July 2016. Many in the Congress saw the clean chit to George as a good omen and hoped for a similar result in cases against Chief Minister Siddaramaiah in the MUDA land “scam” and the corruption charges against Deputy CM D K Shivakumar.
THE FIRST Union Council of Ministers meeting in the third term of the Modi government, scheduled for Wednesday evening, will be a special one for outgoing Cabinet Secretary Rajiv Gauba. The 1982-batch IAS officer will demit office on August 30, completing five years in the post and becoming the longest-serving Cabinet Secretary. The meeting, to be held at Sushma Swaraj Bhawan, may also include presentations by some secretaries on their ministry’s plan for ‘Viksit Bharat’ goal.
